I will be taking the DAT next summer (2015, after sophomore year) since the material will be more fresh, etc.

To avoid the exorbitant fee of $33 per score report/school when I apply to dental schools in the summer of 2016, can I just select all the schools I'm considering to apply at the time of the DAT application? If i'm not mistaken, scores are going to be send 1 year before I start/send my application to those schools.

Note: I'm not asking the length of the validity of the scores.

I just finished my sophomore year and am planning to take the DAT in August, just like you will be doing next summer! I just checked off the schools I wanted to send to because it's probably best that you take the DAT once. Just make sure you're ready to take it and not rushing into it!

So long as you check just ONE of the schools when you sign up to take the test, EVERY school you apply to will get your scores through AADSAS. No need to pay! 🙂

If you don't apply, in your case during the 2016 application cycle, you will have to pay the $33 anyway because addsas never uploaded your scores, but as Glimmer said you only have to pay for one school, when you decide to apply which in your case would be summer of 2016 (2017 App cycle)

This is somewhat incorrect, your DAT scores are connected to your DENTPIN (and saved with the ADA, not ADEA/AADSAS) and are imported into AADSAS after you start the application and enter your DENTPIN.

As Glimmer said, if you check at least one school on the DAT application, scores will be sent to each school applied to regardless of cycle applying to.

Right, but I think if you take your DAT a year early and don't apply for that cycle, meaning that your DAT was never on an ADDSAS App, you still have to pay 33 dollars for one school when you do apply.

I am actually in the same situation for this cycle and I have called ADDSAS about this, but if you have experience otherwise please tell us.

This is 100% incorrect, unless they have changed things.

I took my DAT after my sophomore year and didn't apply until the next summer. I selected the required one school when I signed up (I actually selected more, but one school is all that is necessary). My scores were ABSOLUTELY linked to my application for the next cycle. I paid nothing.

Here's a very easy way to check to see if your scores are linked to your app--and, if you've selected at least one school, they should be! After you take your DAT, go ahead and make an AADSAS account. Link it to your DENTPIN. About 1-2 weeks after you take the DAT, a record of your scores should show up in the "official scores" tab. That way, you'll know they're there. (Oh, and anyone is welcome to create an app, regardless of whether or not they're applying that year. It won't affect anything.)
