Hello. I am applying for the 2005 application cycle and I am a little confused when it comes to filling out the AADSAS application and DAT scores.

If I understand correctly, you can submit the AADSAS application if you haven't taken the DAT yet. I am aware you can send in your DAT scores later, but how do they (the schools that are going over your stats) process your application in the mean time if your DAT scores aren't there yet?

For example, if I were to SUBMIT my AADSAS on June 1st, it takes 4-5 weeks right? Now, assuming I take the DAT in mid June, my scores will get to the schools by the time the schools receive the application, right? How long does it take for the DAT scores to be sent to the schools anyway. What happens if the school reads my application and my DAT scores aren't there yet?

As you can see, I am a little confused about timing, so if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks and good luck to this year applicants.

Send in your app as soon as possible. Some schools review it without the DAT and possibly give you an interview. Once you take the DAT and they get the scores your app will be complete and reviewed.

I sent my application in Aug 2003 and took the DAT in Nov 2003. It took AASADS about 7-8 weeks to process my application and send to the schools. It took ADA about 10 days to send my DAT scores to the schools. As soon as my scores got to the schools, I started receiving invitations for interviews.

If they're interested in your application without the DAT score, they will keep your application in a special place until they get your DAT score. Then they'll decide to invite you or not.

I've completed my bio and chem but I'm going to be finishing my orgos in the summer and won't have the grades till August. Should I wait to send in my application or should I go ahead and then add in my grades later? Also does anyone know if my application is too weak since I haven't taken my physics yet for the 2005 cycle?

I'm in a position similar to the OP. I plan on having my application together by mid august, but I may not take to the DAT until September. Is it better to submit the App after the DAT or asap? My cum gpa is less than stellar (3.15), although course work in the last 8 trimesters has been excellent (3.7). Since I'm banking on a solid showing on the DAT would it be deadly to submit my app w/o it? I don't want to risk applying too late, but I wouldn't want my app to end up in the reject bin because it's missing a (hopefully terrific) DAT score.

What is better in my position: august app w/ DAT arriving in mid-september or the whole shebang in mid-september?

Seasoned advice much appreciated!

Hey BioGoly,
Just figured I'd chime in here since you may be applying to OHSU. I went and visited with the admissions dean at OHSU about your very question, I will not be taking my DAT's until August. He recommended to me that I work at getting my application submitted in June, or as early as I am able, even though I will not have my DAT scores until later in the summer.

He told me that he sees applicants every year who are taking their DAT's late in the summer miss the deadline date. The reason is, they wait and submit thier applications until they have thier DAT scores, in Aug/Sept. Once you have submitted your application to AADSAS he said that it can take up to four weeks or sometimes longer before it reaches the schools. Then you still have to fill out secondary apps and get that back to them.

He told me that when they recieve apps that are missing DAT scores they still review them and send out secondary apps based on the schools minimum GPA and coursework requirements under the assumption that you perform within thier standards on the DAT.

Finally, he said that since you submitted your application early, the schools will already have your completed file and just need the DAT scores. Once they recieve the DAT scores they place them in your file and you are done.

The way I figure it the whole application process is going to be stressful enough let alone if you start pushing the deadlines. I'm going to submit mine the end of May/beggining of June so that it will be one less thing I have to worry about while preparing for the DAT's.

If I'm way of base here someone else please add your two cents. 😀

Thanks for the sound advice. I didn't realize it might take so long for AADSAS to process an application. On the AADSAS website they claim to send off an app to schools within 14 days after your file is completed...but a four to seven week delay could really gum things up.

I guess the bottom line is don't take chances...GET THAT APP IN EARLY!

Even though I don't have my orgo grades still August I should send in my apps and send in a separate transcript and DAT scores? Does anyone have a definite outline of when things should be done?
