I think you should be straight Don... Hell look at my GPA, and i hope to god i can score 19+ on the dats... Chemistry is whats going to KILL me

I took the test a few years ago and got a 19 with a 3.4 GPA. I applied a little late this year but only received 1 interview. I am taking the test again because I did not study very much the first time. I wouldn't get too comfortable with a 18-19 because applicants are getting much higher scores.

your best bet is always to apply in your home state, being a resident majorly helps out.

my state's school is top 3 in the nation. I will apply there also, we'll see! Some more names of schools would be greatly appreciated.

People who got in are giving me mixed reviews about my scores and GPA. Some think i got a solid chance and some think i got an okay chance. What I will do is apply to a good number of schools to find out for myself. Well, I'm not getting comfortable with anything right now. I will do my best and see.

I would say thinking about retaking. I have very similar stats with you, I decided to retake DAT some where around early June, I thought about this for a long time, finally made a decision. Good luck~

nope...not retaking it. I know a lot of people with stats lower than mine and got in. You got to know where to apply and apply as early as possible. The thing about retaking is 1)you might trip on some harder tests (i think my test was harder compare to what people has been describing about their own tests) 2) if your scores go down, that'll be a kick in the ass 3) 3 more months of studying? yeah right. I'll apply to a good number of schools and i'll let you guys know what happens.

Something to consider is that you have already done 3 months of studying. You can look at the questions you did not do well on and really work on that stuff without forgetting the other 3 months that you have already done. You probably have a decent shot of getting into a school, but if you dont and decide to retake the DAT next year it will be a lot more work....that is what I am going through. Apply early and good luck.

Wow, your home state school is #3, and only one in your state, that makes it harder. Well, not sure exactly but I would guess one of three possibilities:

1.) apply to schools that have big entering classes (think NYU)

2.) Go to school individual websites, some post average acceptance scores - if on the lower end give it a go, alternatively call the admissions office and talk to them about how their school is your 1st choice, but you are a little worried about your scores, ask them what your chances of being accepted are and see what they say. This will serve 2 purposes, to elim schools with high stats, and to let the schools get to know you some/think you want to go there so bad and they might remember that when they see your app come along.

3.)Look on schools websites to see which schools advertise taking a high % of out of state students (think UConn), you want to probably avoid states like texas that have a legislative rule stating that the maximum amount of out of state students accepted can be 10% (schools like that make the out of state pool extremely competative)

Hope this helps

They dont have dental school rankings. Im not sure where the #3 came from. Everyone has different opinions about which schools are best but no one really knows. Some think that if the school accepts people with the highest stats are the best but that isnt the case.

By the way, where can you go to see what dental schools are ranked?

my premed/predent advisor told me we're top 3 to top 5 for five years in a row. I talked to a couple of other people and I got the same answer. Call the admision people got the same answer. Maybe they're biase because they work here or go here. I don't really care, but I know for one thing and that is they accept an average of AA20/TS20/PAT 17, the good thing is that they accept 90% in-state students. Out of state students with 24 on DAT and higher and good GPA are constantly being denied!

think ranking is based on facilities, resources, student to professor ratio, money provided by the state going into the dentistry program. Since this is the only dentistry school in the state, they got a crap load of money to upgrade everthing.
Good luck to you and your continuous studying man. I ran out of juice after this one...need a break!
:::They do have dental school rankings...it varies base on different sources.

Yeah...that is exactly what i'm looking at! I came up with about 25 schools that I got a solid shot at, these are the schools that people with similiar stats like me got in. I also applied to a couple of harder ones to see if i can get in.

Sorry dude I didnt mean to come across as an A-hole. When I got my 19 I thought it was a good score and I would easily get in but this whole application cycle has sucked. AADSAS messed up my application and everything else you can think of. It just sucks tossing a bunch of money down the drain in order to apply to D-school and to just have to do it over again. I dont blame you that you dont want to study a bunch after you have worked hard for 3 months. I am taking it again so hopefully I improve so I dont have to go through what happened to me last year. I would definately give your 19 a shot and apply as early as possible and interview well when you get them. Best of luck dude.

hey man...study hard! with your gpa you definitely need to hit at least 20s on the dat. 20s are very doable because i've seen it with my own eyes. My mistake...study too much and too little practice. Make sure you practice as much as you study. I just checked up the stats, 18s and 19s aren't that safe anymore, they're used to be safe! i mean more than 50% of the schools accept people with dat lower than 19AA, but those people tend to have high gpa (3.5 overall, 3.4sgpa and above), a master degree, or old as dirt. Good luck!!!

ya i know... but i am an extremely underprivelaged applicant as well, (Poor as dirt all my life, this will be discussed in my personal statement a little) and during my sophmore year, i earned 3 C's (Killed my GPA, other then that i got straight A's and a B here and there) due to my uncle dying of cancer, my grandfather being diagnosed with cancer, my brother getting into a serious car wreck, and my mom being diagnosed with a serious neck industry... I am damn proud that i stuck through it and pulled off 3 Cs.... I think this will give me some leniency if discussed properly in my personal statement

But other then that, im still going to study my ass off for the DATs... i know i can do it, and i will PRACTICE alot

I'm sorry about all the unfortunate things that happened to you, and I wish the best of luck to you. I'm sure they will give you more consideration with your circumstance. What that being said, some schools have a systematic (logarithmic sytem) way to rank their applicants on who should get interviews and who would be matricualted. These are base primarily out of numbers. Plus, base on your picture, i assume you're caucasian, not a minority. Sucks, but i'll trade my asian background with you anyday when applying into the health profession. Once again, good luck.

The thing about the schools have the system is true, and that is why im applying to the least competitive schools there are, except UNC of course, but hey... its worth a try ya know
