Hello,

I have a question about the DAT application.
In the application it says the following:

If the schools you requested participate in a standardized application service, e.g., the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) or the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS), the scores will be available to the schools directly and through the application service. The fee for Dental schools not selected at the time of application is $30 per report.
Dental schools to receive official reports of your test scores.
Does this mean that I can pretty much select ALL the schools for free?
So if I don't select a school right now and decide i want to apply there, I need to pay $30 later in the cycle?

Is there something I'm missing here?

haha thanks guys!

i think that you can select any school for free. I took dat after I applied, and I got to send it to all my 15 schools with no additional cost

Yes. You can select all the schools and it won't cost extra. If you select another school after the fact then you will pay extra. Better to select all the schools up front.

thank you everyone!

I will be applying this coming june and I am planning on taking the DAT in may- I don't have a "set" list of schools I want to apply yet though. Do you think it's just safe to select all schools in my case?

Yes

Select every school except Canadian schools (unless your from canada or you plan on going there).

i screwed up and didn't know which schools to check so I only checked the 3 in Texas, is there anything else I can do to change it? I don't want to pay $30 for each school (prob 10 more)!

There is a common misconception that you must pick all schools you plan to apply for when you take the DAT or you must pay additional money if you did not pick each school.

There is no reason at all to order additional score reports at 30 bucks a piece. If you selected at least 1 school, AADSAS will get your scores. AADSAS will upload you score to each school you apply for along with your application. Since you selected a school TXpredent (well 3), AADSAS has your scores and will send to any additional schools you designate when you send applications. Don't worry.

Straight from AADSAS website in their FAQ:

"After the DAT is taken, ADEA AADSAS will retrieve the candidate's scores and will distribute them to all schools designated in the ADEA AADSAS application. ADEA AADSAS is not able to retrieve official DAT scores for applicants who did not indicate any ADEA AADSAS participating dental schools in their DAT registration"

Additionally, I can tell you that I applied to and was accepted to a school that I did not designate for an official report. They got my scores through AADSAS.

But if you're the paranoid type, make sure select all schools when you apply to take DAT since it doesn't cost you any extra money...

I selected all schools when I applied for the DAT at no additional cost. Go for it!

Would it still work if I select all the schools, even if I won't be applying the upcoming cycle?
