Hey guys, I am planning to take the DAT by the end of my winter break this school year so that I can be an early applicant for the next cycle. I am wondering if 4 weeks would be enough to prepare well for the DAT. If so, would you guys give me tips or guidelines to follow during this intense 4 week bootcamp that I will go through? I have read the stickied thread about the sample dat study program but that is spanned out over the course of 6-8 weeks. I am looking for something more intense with maybe 6-8 hrs per day. If possible, please recommend me some resources to use for each subject. I will appreciate any help that I can get from you guys. Thank you!

dont waste your time with any of those USELESS schedules. They are great and dandy, but only for the person who wrote them. If you are serious about blowing this exam away, get a chads subscription put in 12-15 hours a day learn the entire orgo and chem in 1 week. and blast through the destroyer (2011 ONLY). Memorize EVERY single word in the biology destroyer part, and i mean EVERY SINGLE WORD....all those problems that are "e)all the above", guess what you better know them ALL. If you do this you should get no less than a 20 on your TS....For PAT just get CDP and do it...its probably the most useless section along with math. and RC...you better read and not do any of that search and destroy mumbo jumbo. b/c i consider myself a good reader and if you get the physics passage like me, well than, lol goodluck. good luck man

"Intense 4 weeks" and only do 6-8 hours a day??

Unless you have recently taken ALL classes needed for the DAT and they are all fresh and ready to be used, then your OK.
Otherwise, I suggest to either increase the hours, or add a couple weeks.

Good luck

I don't know if 6-8 hrs is enough time in the day for one month. Honestly I studied for 2-2 1/2 months and studied 6-8 hrs the first month and over 12 hrs a day for the second half. But we are all different and have different study patterns. Just something to take in consideration. Good luck

since your still in college, DAT info should be fresh in your mind from classes. 4 weeks is defintiley enough time. my advice is start PAT right NOW. buy cdp 1o test, and work on it whenever u have free time during ur semester. PAT requires alot of practice (at least for some people....) so id suggest getting started.

If you consider yourself organized and very effective/efficient at studying, then it'll probably be enough. Also depends on how comfortable you feel about math, bio, gchem, and ochem at this moment in time.

If not, then you probably need more time.

Maybe you should consider taking one practice test just for fun at a Barnes and Noble bookstore and see how comfortable you are about it. Then decide from there.

However, it is possible for some people, but probably not for most people.

I am planning at the moment to study for 4 weeks during my winter break to finish the DAT because I've read that I should submit my application right when it's available; so around the beginning of June. I had originally planned to study intensely for the DAT for 1-2 months during my summer vacation but it seems that I will no longer be an early applicant if I choose this route. What do you guys think? I am currently very stressed out about my situation at the moment. I am currently a 3rd year so I will still have one more year to go before I graduate.

Anyways, when I took the organic chem series last school year, I got straight A's so I would definitely think of ochem as my strongest subject. However, I am not sure how well I would fair by the time this winter break rolls around. Initially, I thought 6-8 hours would be plenty enough but after reading your posts, I will up the hours. Do you guys think that destroying the DAT will be doable in only 4 weeks? I consider myself to be fairly disciplined at the moment. I study for every subject for roughly 1-2 hours every day. I have never subjected myself to anything as intense as 12-15 hours of studying per day. I would really like opinions.

Thank you!

it really helps that your in school....I retook my DAT in September and did ~ 4-5 week intense review. But keyword being Ive taken it before....If you do want to do it, I say take an exam right now - see your starting point (you can pm me if you want after). But you'll want to know with what your starting out with and if your in decently good shape go from there!

Key to doing well is taking a ton of tests once your prepared. I'd say the last two weeks just take tests almost every other day. Take a test - than review every answer you got wrong and know it cold...

The first week (post-1st diagnostic test) - study every science section these re the ones you want exposure to first b/c its dense and comprehensive! And I agree start the PAT right away...this part needs practice for timing etc.

Materials: Crack the DAT (the BEST)/kaplan(not great for angle ranking, but good practice) for PAT, destroyer for chem questions, kaplan book for fundamentals (supplement with your other science notes), Top score + kaplan + ADA for actual tests (I heard you can get ADA online if you search hard enough)..
My scores were bio 18 (so don't listen to me for this section) RC: 22 PAT: 24 CH: 22 ORGO: 24 TS:21 AA:22(97%)

Hey katwoman, thanks for your reply. So all in all, since I have never taken the DAT or any practice tests for it, do you think that it would be better if I just study hard for it (6-8 hrs) for 1-2 months during my summer vacation and apply a little later than for early applicants? Right now, I am torn between the 4 weeks of intense studying (I've never done this before so I am not sure if I have the resolve to study 12-15 hours per day for 4 weeks) during winter break and be an early applicant or study for 1-2 months 6-8 hrs a day and perhaps score a little better but not be early for the application process.

higher DAT scores > Early applicant.

Dont be fooled by the buzz saying you have to SEND in ALL your stuff on may 1st...

It doesnt matter if your done in august or may. As long as you finish all other stuff in your application early and just submitting your DAT scores whenever you are done with it.

Again ; a high DAT score is more important than being the first applicant in the US...

Take your test between may-august and you will still be considered into the first cycle of interviews.

Don't get too caught up with the number of weeks. Instead, focus in on learning and getting the score you need. The earlier post is partially right in the sense that the 6 week program depicted works best for the person who designed the program, not for you. I will put up my 4-6 week schedule shortly as a bunch of people have asked me for it. Keep in mind though, it worked best for me and so looking at everything out there and what you have going on in your life, you need to come up with your own schedule for success. You literally design your own success and anyone who tells you otherwise is full of it!

👍 Well put. I definitely agree that learning and figuring out what you know/don't know is more important than the number of weeks.

Totally agree with AllahIsGreater! Just know chads well for about 1.5 week. 1 week keep doing OCHEM and CHEM Destroyer. 1 week BIO DESTROYER + CDP. 1 Week for MATH + CDP and reviewing.

Reading is more like either ure good at it or not. Practice a few times but i highly doubt u can improve it also depends on the passgage types.
Best of luck. AND STUDY YOUR BUTT OFFF! If you do this intennsly then im sure ull do FINE.
