Took the DAT a few days ago
AA 23
TS 21
Bio 20
GC 22
OC 26
PAT 21
RC 23
QR 23
Just wanted to use this opportunity to thank the SDN community and help future test takers. Materials used were:
Chads for OCHEM, GCHEM
Cliffs 3rd for Bio and Feralis notes
DAT Destroyer
Bootcamp
Here's how the test went...
Bio: There were some random questions here and there but overall not too bad. The problem with this section is that the amount of material they can ask you about is just crazy...I don't think there is anyway to be 100% prepared for it. But cliffs is a great starter for general concepts and fundamentals, then destroyer and feralis are great for the details. Especially for the anatomy/physiology sections, Feralis is definitely a must.
GC: There isn't too much to this section, go through chads, take good notes and go through destroyer. It's all practice practice practice so you can hammer the ideas and make sure you can compute simple calculations like acid/base chemistry.
OC: The Ochem section was pretty straightforward honestly. Some of the destroyer questions are crazy and there were a few questions i was unsure about. If you go through Chads and destroyer though you should be good.
PAT: This was the portion of the test i was unsure about because you have to move quickly and you aren't really thinking about how well you are doing in the moment. I went in order and didn't skip any questions, and to be quite honest i didnt have too many tips and tricks either other than making a table for the cube counting. I will say there were some crazy questions but a lot of straight forward ones too, DAT Bootcamp generators are a good start and the practice tests are great for timing. Just try to find strategies that work for you.
RC: So i had three articles that were kinda cool, heavy scientific jargon but interesting. Most of the questions were search and destroy. My method was basically quickly read the article just to mentally note what each paragraph or section is talking about so when i see a question i know where to refer back to. The highlighting feature was also helpful. Bootcamp tests are awesome for this section imo.
QR: I was running out of time at the end of my studying and never got to finish Math Destroyer. I didn't spend too much time studying for this section honestly and I was slightly worried but it ended up being straightforward. The calculator is super helpful for checking answers if you have extra time. Practice practice practice, Bootcamp was definitely harder.
Overall thoughts:
Do what works for you, don't try and copy someone elses study plans. I originally did Ari's 10 week study schedule but i couldn't keep up with the last 5 weeks. I felt like i wasn't retaining the info, I needed more time to really learn the material and let it sink in...Especially with destroyer and how heavy it is information wise.
Shout out to Orgoman and Ari from Bootcamp. Obviously Chad for his videos.
I also want to mention that you shouldn't put too much stock into your practice tests, i scored higher on everything on the real deal. Don't try and guess your score before the test, just learn from all your mistakes, have the timing down and be confident in your abilities.
You can do it!!
