A research scientist discovered an isotope of ⁵⁴Cr.
How many neutrons are contained in a 0.025 mole sample?

a) 4.5 × 10²¹
b) 1.5 × 10²²
c) 4.5 × 10²³
d) 3.6 × 10²³
e) 6 × 10²⁴
f) None of these

Correct Answer: C

Chromium has atomic number 24, so ⁵⁴Cr has 30 neutrons per atom.

Calculation:
0.025 mol × 6 × 10²³ atoms/mol × 30 neutrons/atom
= 4.5 × 10²³ neutrons
