Just finished my DAT the other day. I am really please (and somewhat surprised) by the results, so this is my obligatory score posting with some questions as well.
This was my first time taking the test and studied a fair amount this summer (mostly biology), studied on free weekends during fall quarter, and sceduled my test on the 30th of December specifically for the reason of studying really, really hard over winter break (worst winter break ever).
I used the Kaplan book, of which I completely ignored the bio section at recommendation of many people online, and mostly stayed away from the PAT section as that was also not recommended. I used Schaums bio and found that helpful, and relied very heavily on Top Score Pro.
I found Top Score to be noteably harder than the actual test except for the math section, as you will see from my scores.
Scores:
QR: 17 - 63.2% Percentile
RC: 19 - 53.3%
Bio: 19 - 75.3%
GC: 19 - 70.7%
OC: 22 - 89.8%
TS: 20 - 84.0%
TA: 19 - 73.5%
PAT: 23 - 98.7%
I'm especially excited about the PAT, if it weren't for that I would be hesistant for as to whether or not to retake, but the PAT score made me really content with my results. I actually expected to do a little better on the RC and QR and a little worse on the Science so a little surprised by that.
I have a couple questions:
1.) I'm aware that schools analyze these scores induvidually based on each component and generally put their own weights on each section, but is there a certain way to calculate and overall average for the whole test. For example is the PAT weighted 50% and the Academic weighted 50%? I was just curious about this for the importance of each section.
2.) Has anyone ever seen a change from their estimated scores? From what I've read, almost all of the scores stay the same unless there are some extenuating circumstances. Also, how do they notify you of your "official" score? Do you get something in the mail or is there somewhere online that you can check?
Anyway, thanks for the help.
