Hello,

Quick question: is taking the DAT around April 10 going to be earlier enough for applying in the summer to dental schools? I am a post-bac predent student that will finish 2nd semester ochem this spring. Are there any drawbacks in taking it this "late"?

I think you should finish ochem before taking the DAT. You can submit your application on May 15 and it will take about 6 to 8 weeks for them to process it. Dental schools start accepting applications in July, therefore applying in May will put you in a good spot. I think April 10th is perfect, however, there are no seats available in April at any of the testing centers in NJ and NY.

I'm sort of in the same boat as mistermay. Im also finishing orgo in may thats why I've been planning on taking my DAT sometime in June or beginning of July. I heard that you can apply before you have your scores, and have them sent in once you do.

How are the seats in June/July khawanit? And when is a good time to reserve a spot and register for a DAT sometime then?

I am not sure about that. I do know that my friend didn't do that well on DAT and he had a really good GPA. Dental schools gave him a chance to retake them before March 15th. I really don't know if you can do that. How can they evaluate your application if they don't have one of the most important part of the application? I don't think they will look at the application till everything is complete.

I am not sure what testing center you want to take you exam in. You should definitely register couple of months before to get the date of your choice.

I just checked online and i live in PHilly and they said DAT's are blacked out between April 8-30th and sometime in Feb. I'm retakeing my DAT's i guess in May hopefully. I think that depending on your scores and overall stats applying in July or even August is still relatively early but what do i know? anyways good luck to you on the DAT's!

nation wide they DAT's are blocked out in Feb.. and in April from 8-30th... they are updating the database i believe.. but its a nationwide process
