I am almost done reviewing my first section: BIO. Many of the questions are rather difficult in the fact that they really make you think before you answer (imagine that 😀 ). I believe most are harder than one would see on the actual test.

There are a lot of "All of the following are true EXCEPT?" type problems. Solutions are very thorough and well explained and he even says things like "Be sure you know this" if the information is pertinent.

Most importantly, I feel that the way the questions are written is developing my skill of ruling out incorrect answers (you pretty much have to on most of them).

One thing that I do not like however is how some of the questions (or answers) are written ambiguously.

Example one question asks "Which is false?"

Choice A says "The ETC pumps protons out of the mitochondria, thus creating a proton gradient"

At first glance I thought it was this answer because protons are pumped out of the matrix into the innermembrane space, but not the mitochondria.

As you read on however, there is a better answer that is more "WRONG" than the statement above.

I must say, however, that I am pleased thus far.

Will post more when I can. 👍

what do u think of #135 that says glycolysis produces 2CO2??

The only thing I can think of is before pyruvate actually enters Kreb's cycle, it is decarboxylated. I can't say I necessarily agree that it is part of glycolysis because it occurs in the matrix. If I had to choose to which it belonged, I would say Kreb's.

All in all, poorly worded question. The only reason I picked E was because the first 3 were definitely true. Infact, I didn't even notice the 2CO2 because there was more than one correct so i automatically picked ALL are true.

I actually talked to Dr. Romano about that one...it was an error and he meant to put 2 H20

Finally done with BIO section. Only had issues with 9 questions, one of which has been cleared up (see above). I will pose these to Dr. Romano and let you know. Overall, I feel it was great practice. It pointed out a lot of my weaknesses but explained the topics well in the solutions.

I am very curious to see how I do on Achiever after this.

BTW, if you knew the better majority of the questions on here, you would probably rip the bio section on the DAT to shreds. Rigorous as hell.
I missed 41 out of the 194 questions and made about 8 IDIOTIC mistakes.

I got it yesterday around 1pm and I ONLY went through the bio section. I finished around 1:30am but took a lot of breaks (like three 3 hour breaks and many more little ones)
Didn't take that long of actual studying time but make sure you read the solutions.

Now go over it again, and when you finish it, again! 🙂

Ummm...hell no? I only have 7 days, plus I can almost guarantee that I could answer any of the questions I went over yesterday correctly. I have a really good memory with things like that.

Just emailed Nancy and told her to PM you with the phone number.

lifeisgood, you seem to have started a trend of people wanting to get DAT Destroyer now. Apparently, testimonials from people that have taken the test just doesn't cut it these days... you need a recommendation from a person on the forums that's taking it in a week. 🙂

HAHA, wait till you get to the Gchem section, tell me you went through that in a day....... It's rough.... But I definitley agree with you on the bio, it makes you think about why your eliminating wrong choices, and also forces you to look for careless errors you make. Great practice, every section is loaded with traps, easy looking right answers, and i've fallen into EVERY single one, but it's good because i'd rather make the mistakes now and learn why I made it now than on the real test. Keep crackin at it.... T-Minus 1 week for us man... Best of luck...

The Gchem section is pretty rough, but I did manage to finish it in day. 😀

Don't get sucked into that trend with the DAT Destroyer... the goal of the question format is not the replicate the DAT format... it's actually designed that way to trap you with common wrong answers like you said. Destroyer is a learning tool because each question packs a punch (you'll learn more than one thing in each). The DAT bio will be worded differently in some cases.

So remember, Destroyer great learning tool to learn DAT, but does not replicate DAT format of questions.

I agree as well... I know the real dat questions dont have so many traps and cover 3 different concepts in each question... But each time I fall into a destroyer trap, there is a reason for it, I obviously forgot something, and fell into the trap, which is exactly what the question was ment to do... When you read the explanations your always like, "Oh yeah, that happens too"..

I think i fell into a destroyer trap more than 100 times(out of 140 questions). 3 different concepts in one problem....that really kills me. It has many hardcore problems unlike Kaplan blue book. I think difficulty level of DAT destroyer bio is almost same as Barron's Bio, which I think is very very hard.

Nancy and Dr. Romano are on vacation for the week. Was told that their will try to check their email if possible. I know that some one is responsible for mailing out the book when orders are taken.

I just got done with the Dat, look for the the thread "Done with Dat and Advice for Dat Taker". I think that`s the title of the thread. I used it for the Organic and Gchem section mostly, and I do agreed w/ the OP in make sure to read the explanations. It is simple and straight forward to understand.

Really understand and work through the solutions. The solutions in the destroyer are the best I have seen as compared to any other DAT prep material.

Any of you figure out how he arrive at the formula in Math section for Q64 and where the 4x-60 came from in Q116?
