would anyone say there's a significant difference in material/improvements between the 2008 version and the newer ones?

thanks
steven

couple more questions. If you have old version, it is still good. But if you want a new one, get the new version.

I would hesitate to get the newest version... I just took the DAT a few weeks ago and used a 2008 version and it helped me a lot (22 Total Science). Avoid buying it brand new from Romano's website if at all possible...

thanks guys. one more question: should i also purchased the ochem odyssey that's a supplement to the destroyer, or is the destroyer's ochem portion sufficient on its own?

I got the 2008 version from a friend a couple of months back, and then I bought the 2010 version. I can tell you this: the 2010 has a lot more problems than the 2008. There are new problems in General chem, Bio, and orgo. I dont about you but i'd rather have more material to work with. Hope this helps

It's all a matter of opinion and how well you feel about the material yourself. I have to 2008 version, but a friend of mine has the 2010 version. There definitely are new questions and materials, which in my mind I think is worth it alone. The Destroyer definitely helped me a lot between my first and second time taking the DAT. However, you have to keep in mind, that you have to use other sources as well, it's all just what you think.

If you think the new version is going to give you more of an edge I would take it! I have been on the boards since I started the whole studying process and I've seen then trends in scores go through the roof this cycle! The Destroyer gotta be doing something right if so many people keep recommending it.

I was actually debating if I should get the new DAT destroyer 2010 because I have the old version because the destroyer cost alot of money. But however I start my kaplan class in 3 weeks so do you think it's enough to do the kaplan stuff and use the old DAT destroyer book? and also i'm going to get other practice test later...

I know for a fact that the new 2010 destroyer has many more problems in the Chem, bio, and math sections. I would deffinetly reccomendgetting the updated version because you would have an upper edge abasing those people who have not seen the new questions. When I studied for the DAT I made sure that i bought the lastest updated version. I saw brand new questions in my updated DAT book that really helped me get a 26 in Orgo, 20 in bio and 23 in g Chem.

It's truly not worth holding back.

The new version is packed out with great new problems. You should see the book before giving advice to others. The more questions the better.

just took the DAT about to post up up my breakdown! i went up 5 points in organic chem 3 points in bio and learned almost all my gen chem from destroyer and kaplan blue book. The bio i'd have to say hands down is due to destroyer 2010. Orgo roadmaps def. saved me a lot of time and allowed me to make a review sheet along with my textbooks to see all the reactions i needed to know. Gen chem in destroyer has some theory and some calculation quickness. I'd have to say my best resources were my textbooks destroyer and kaplan. In that order. I dont think anyone here or anywhere in the united states doesn't study without destroyer and kaplan. The thing about kaplan is that is a good base study. But destroyer comes with like more than 200 problems in each section. I think the new destroyer has like 350+ problems along with 200 + for g chem and 250 or so organic. So for that price and that many problems i'd say its the best compliment for everyones study. I'm not saying you can rely on destroyer to get you great scores. But you need to couple it with kaplan and your textbooks but its def worth the money if you get that score especially for that many problems.

okay im a bit confused on what the 2010 version for destroyer is. The one i have it says its from 2006-2010. it has 377 bio questions and 242 chem questions n so on... is this the one everyones talking bout???

I saw Destroyer 2010, it has more practice problems than previous versions in areas like Bio, Gen chem and orgo.

Just a couple more questions. The old one is just as good. They key is just to know the general and basic sciences

If you could get the Kaplan Subject Tests and blue book from someone don't even waste your time with the classes. Its students teaching the classes. The material itself from Kaplan is GREAT but the classes are useless in my opinion.

Here is what I have found (feel free to correct any mistakes):

DAT Destroyer 2007
- 186 organic chemistry questions
- 184 general chemistry questions
- 313 biology questions
- 153 quantitative reasoning questions

DAT Destroyer 2008
- 186 organic chemistry questions
- 189 general chemistry questions
- 324 biology questions
- 153 quantitative reasoning questions

DAT Destroyer 2009
- 210 organic chemistry questions
- 212 general chemistry questions
- 350 biology questions
- 153 quantitative reasoning questions

DAT Destroyer 2010
- 232 organic chemistry questions
- 242 general chemistry questions
- 377 biology questions
- 156 quantitative reasoning questions

So there are more problems in the latest editions, but the real question is, are the new problems just repeats of the originals (i.e. different versions of the same type of problem), or do they cover new material that the original DAT Destroyer completely missed?

Took the DAT in August and used the 07 version of Destroyer. My advice would be if you can get an older version for significantly cheaper, do it.

pauly11235, have you actually studied with the new 2010 edition? I'm just confused because I thought you studied with the 2009 edition and were really happy with your scores.

Why are you using the 2010 edition if you already took the DAT in 2009? 😕Just curious.

I have Destroyer 2008 and 2010 and i'm thinking of getting more material. The bottom line is: if you wanna get the new version get it if you dont then dont. it's that simple. There are a lot of books out there. Beside the destroyer i'm using text books and any other material i can get my hands on. I don't wanna limit myself to a single source of information. Honestly i think this thread is getting ridiculous and should be closed. It's my opinion 🙂

It all comes down to how good you want to do on your DAT if the destroyer could help you gain even a few points in every section in the long haul it'll all be worth it and the new destroyers have a lot more questions than the previous ones so its a matter of personal choice. Your goal is to get the best score possible so you have to do whatever it takes!
