Sorry for all the post today guys, but its the first time I am using the destroyer and I do not like some of his explanations
Number 35 ask what reagents can make a given product via grignards.
Here is where I am getting confused, I do not understand what is considered a "good leaving group" I was always under the assumption that a good leaving group was a stable anion. (I alway ask myself if the conjugate acid of the leaving group is strong, because if it is, it will be a good leaving group)
But basically he says that if you attack the carbonyl of an ester, and when the negative oxygen brings down its electrons the methoxy group will leave. Since when is a -OCH3 a good leaving group? I know oxygen is electronegative and does not mind a full negative charge, but I would have never of guessed that it is a good leaving group.
So I guess can anyone clarify how I can determine if something is a good leaving group or not.

Also if someone is good at explaining a base vs nucleophiles....like how to determine weather something is a good base and a bad NU: and so on.
