Hi! I have searched the forum and noticed there a lot of people promoting it and some people opposing it b/c it ads. I noticed some people with a lot of posts praise it and some people with very low post count prasing it as well. I was wondering if it really that good? I tried to find it on amazon but could not so that i see the review of the product( i know it on orogoman). What your opinion?

also!
anyone that took the DAT without destroyer and retook it with destroyer? i had kaplan pretty much memorized front to back, except for math, and didn't do as good as i hoped. i hit 20s and was hoping for mid 20s to offset my 2.7bcp/sci gpa and 3.3 cumgpa. could this help that much to propel me into the mid to upper 20 range?

If you want to wait a couple of days after I take the exam (as long as i dont postpone it), i will let you know how it turns out. this is my second time taking it- the first time I used the Krap-lan book and didnt do that great even though i knew it in and out. Plus I took the course and that was a HUGE mistake...

The reason why I am using the destroyer is simple- the questions that it has are hard, but test you on the material that you would see on the exam. So if you know the hard ones, chances are you will know the easy ones (unless your an ass like me)...

My vote... go with the destroyer. BUT you will need supplemental info, preferrably a text book just to help you with mechanisms...

mightymouse-let me know how it worked out. i knew kaplan inside out also, except for orgo. taking the classroom course was the biggest waste of cash. o well, you live and you learn. but let me know about destroyer and the dat second time around. what did you get the first time?

First time i got a 17, but didnt do too well in orgo. My highest was RC where i got a 20... But will let you know how it turns out.

Is DAT destroyer in a booklet form each section or in a binder altogether?
I know it is a weird question, I hope someone can answer me.

Its a binder kind of thing...nothin fancy, but no need to be fancy if they can deliver like 99% of the people agree on.

I'm right there with you buddy. first time last year i only studied for a couple weeks with kaplan thinking i would be fine. i got 17s across the board in sciences, a 20 in rc and a 20 on pat for an AA of 17. i bet dental schools laughed at me with my measly 3.2 gpa.

i've been preparing the majority of the summer and and recently eating, sleeping, and breathing DAT until next monday (very difficult with grad school). I got the destroyer friday and have been going through problems. i have really only dented it, trying to cover multiple sections rather than one section at a time, and it's really giving me some confidence and testing my knowledge. so second time around with the destroyer i will hopfully post my scores next week. best of luck to you mightymouse, looks like we're in the same boat!

Hey guys. The thing with the DAT Destroyer that makes it stand out from the rest is its verse explanations. Both the questions and answers go into detail about every topic if not mroe than what will be on the DAT. So pretty much I'd say if you know the Destroyer as i did you will walk intot he test with a lot of confidence because the Destroyer is a detailed piece of work. I got a 22 i used the Destroyer along with Kaplan Topscore and Achiever but nothing compared to the Destroyer in my eyes. Good Luck!!

Hey guys, I have to agree with Amsie and all the others on this forum about Destroyer. Skepticism is normal, but there are enough people who have posted on this forum who have succeeded on the DAT and believe in the Destroyer. I personally got 24 AA and 26 TS - and Destroyer was my main study guide. My advice is to order it and you won't ever think twice about it - I am confident you will be quite satisfied with the product. Best of luck to you guys!!!

Hey, I'm in this category. I took the DAT last time using Kaplan and Topscore, I got a 16 overall.. The second time I took the dat was using the destroyer and my overall went up to a 22, so yes like everyone else here said, it works and it's well worth it (oh and I have more than just a handful of posts) Hope that helps.

Ok.
Here's what I can say with my status (still not taken the 2nd DAT)
While taking kaplan, I didn't know a thing. The teacher didn't know much about organic section. I don't recommend my other friends not to take kap-not worth money. But now I see that some of the parts..like, orgo flash cards, are good. Never paid attention then..oh well.

With Destroyer, I went through all the questions, and then went back to Kaptest again(saved old copies), now these kaplan problems seem so easy! (kap probs are jokes!)

That's all I can say so far

Indie & others, you guys are inspiring me to get the Destroyer and try to take the DAT one more time. I'm a new member but have been reading everyone's theads for awhile now. I got a 17 AA on my first DAT on 25 Sept and am looking to take it again - now I think I'll definitely go ahead and get it. I'll let everyone know how it turns out, thanks for all the advice!

After you buy it,check out the "amsies DAT destroyer review" thread for lots of bio questions, and you can PM any of us for extra help,in addition to being able to contact Dr.Romano and Nancy(two of the awesomest people everrrr), mostly any time of the day. Best $150 you'll ever spend.

I second this motion for commotion. The Destroyer's definitely worth it.

it's definately worth it - you can check out my post about it too (August 1st DAT) or something like that.

edit: hrm, except my post doesn't have the cult following amsie's post has . . . 6 pages. i only have 2? boo

My friend has brought the DAT destroyer and he says it just like any review book. He is freaking out, it just a book with questions. He can't believed he paid 160 dollars for it. Hopefully, he will change his mind once he is done stuyding with it.

I don't think i will based my decision on his, beside it not that expensive compared to the test.

Updated:I just brought it out of curosity and i found it to be one of my better investment. Personally, it rocks.

The DAT destroyer is great! I'm currently going through the QR section. It has lots and LOTS of practice problems to really help sink the concepts into your brain (esp. OChem and GChem for me) 🙂 And if you want a more detailed explanation for an answer, referring to another source (i.e. Kaplan blue book) will further your understanding. But the DAT destroyer in itself is pretty much self-explanatory 👍 Good luck :luck:

He is freaking out, it just a book with questions and a very short answer to the questions. He can't believed he paid 160 dollars for it.

first off, i don't know whether to criticize your friend or not. i don't know many other things he could've expected that would be different from, say a kaplan blue book. and second, wouldn't you think more problems would help you grasp concepts better? it has with me, and i know for a fact it's worked with others.

my only comment is, give it a chance. the book alone is awesome. not to mention the extra help from dr. romano and nancy! they are both excellent to work with and will help you work out the kinks in your sciences!

i must not studying it right, i went over those questions and i still gets 18s in topscores

its not a "magic bullet," as dr. romano puts it. you shouldn't even think of attempting the destroyer unless you know your stuff cold...if you do, those "short explanations" will provide you with the small subtle details needed to score those 90+ percentile scores on the exam.

if you've conquered kaplan and topscore and everything and you think you know your stuff, give destroyer a shot...it'll chew you up, spit you out, and only after going through it another 2 times will you REALLY know your stuff.

for all you haters...you clearly don't know your basics. go back and read kaplan again until you do, then attempt the brilliance that is the destroyer

I can't necessarily give a review of Destroyer (I didn't use it), but I want to reinforce the fact that it's mostly up to the individual to study for class and for the DAT and prep packages may only play a small role. It's possible to do well without spending a ton of cash on prep material (I used the blue book/top score/achiever/free kap pdf's). Sure, I may have gotten 29s in all sections if I had more practice problems, but then again maybe I wouldn't have.

And again, once you get in the 20's range on the DAT curve, you're really splitting hairs. A 25 is better than a 20, but still so few people on a whole should get 20's (b/c of the curve). In the end, you're still in a top percentile, which is a good place to be in no matter what the range of percentile is (90 vs 98). The only way it seems a 20-person could get screwed over numbers-wise is if there is a phenomenal increase in DAT takers and the 90th percentile includes much, much more people than it did in the past. (I don't care to do the math to give specific numbers, but I hope that makes sense)

I agree that it is definitely up to the individual to study and know the material. But once that has been accomplished, the Destroyer is simply the best review book/study guide out there. I know this from firsthand experience. It reinforced my knowledge in all the sciences, forced me to learn that which I hadn't learned before, and allowed me to get a TS 26. As people have said, it is not a "magic bullet". But if you know the basics and are a person who works hard, there is no better compilation of questions out there - Destroyer is simply a masterpiece. Good luck!!
