Could someone please explain to me how x=0.5??
I keep getting 4-x + 4-3x + 2x= 1 ; x=3.5

Your setup is incorrect. for every x of N2 consumed, or every 3x H2 consumed, you get 2x NH3. you're told 2mols/2L, or 1M, NH3 is formed.
2x=1, x=0.5

4-x +4-3x + 2x does NOT equal 1. The sum is 7M, but you can't know that until after you calculate x first.

I see, so for every 1x(N2) + 3x (3H2) = 2x (NH2); but since the product is only 1x, you can divide the other's by 2 and get 0.5x + 1.5x = 1.
