Hi Guys,
Quick question.
For biology section question 91 which says:
Which of the following is true. And the answer is choice D which is option A and C.
However i am a little confused about option A which states: In prokaryoties the initiation step of the protein synthesis places the initiator codon of m-RNA usually AUG and f-MET-t-RNA at the proper site on the ribosome.[/COLOR]
I am a little confused on why this option is true. Shdnt this be true for eukaryotes only. I could be wrong though.
If someone could clarify then it would be very helpful.
Thanks.

That is correct. Translation always starts with methionine, AUG codon. This codon is just within different sequences in Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. So, Destroyer is correct. Hope this helps.

The translation process for prokaryotes and eukaryotes are different. For prokaryotes, you have fMet as as your start codon and they identify where to start translation by finding the AUG. For eukaryotes, it just kind of lands on there and the ribosome, powered by ATP of GTP?, searches for the Kozak sequence, which contains the AUG codon (in Eukaryotes, it's just Met, not fMet)
