Dat Destroyer????

Hey people, I just wanna ask about the DAT DESTROYER...

I pretty much gone over and over the KAPLAN BLUE BOOK and i'm still studying from it and it seems that when I tried solving the problems in the scinences of the DESTROYER they seem to be kinda tough and more detailed, and I'm not gonna lie, I felt confident of my knowldedge about the material, that is, before doing the DESTROYER. Like I'm really good in biology and I expected the KAPLAN BOOK to cover everything you need to know for the DAT, until you see a question in the DESTROYER asking you something about something that was briefly summerized in KAPLAN BOOK!!! I know that the DESTROYER is a really good source of study but I would really appreciate the feed back... DO YOU GUYS USE THE DESTROYER FOR SOLID KNOWLEDGE OF DOING PROBLEMS AND THEN JUST PRACTICE THEM MORE TO GAIN CONFIDENCE??

That's right...Kaplan and Destroyer do not go together. Kaplan was made to make you feel good with nice short summaries....not to teach you something you don't know. Know everything in the Destroyer...solutions...why wrong answers are wrong etc. Do this over and over. If you still can't fill in the gaps...use your textbook because you won't find the answer in Kaplan. Good luck.

this has been covered so many times. dat destroyers is a fairly new study took for the DAT, but from my experience the only thing you need to be successful on the dat is the kaplan blue book, top score pro, and dat acheiver. use those three in combination and you will be destined for a score in the 20's. I didni't take organic chem until after i took the dat and i still scored well, I learned it solely from kaplan and the cliff notes organic I and II review book. GL

See I toke the DAT back last October and I had the TOPSCORE program to test my self and basically the questions I would get wrong on the TOPSCORE, I would just go over them over and over again so I can get a practice of maybe encountering the same questions latter on. At the end of three exams of topscore I would always score really well in BIO and ORGO and just suck at GCHEM AND QR... ANYWAYS make a long story short, I basically went over TOPSCORE maybe a 100 times then I felt confident to take the DAT, SO I DID, and then when I sat behind that monitor I just froze bec all that practice from topscore didn't really do me any good since not one question (DIFFERENT FORMAT OF COURSE) appeared on the DAT, so I started panicking when I would see a question that I've never seen B4 or even read anywhere in the KAPLAN BOOK, and BIO was just horrible😱 , I could've sworn that the majority of the questions were ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION AND ANIMAL BEHAVIOR in the BIO section. QR was nothing I've seen B4😱 , I don't like the fact that KAPLAN DOSENT REALLY GIVE YOU ALL THE FORMULAS YOU NEED TO KNOW< LIKE THE PERMUTATION AND COMBINATIONS AND other's MORE...

Anyways I didn't so well at the end, esp after all that studying so I decided to go back and restudy everything and make notes for myself while I study and decided to get the DAT DESTROYER bec I've heard that was a good tool, so I'm RETAKING that DAT in MAY and we'll see what happens...

I'm open for any suggestions and I appreciate all your help.

I say this with your best interests in mind so dont take this the wrong way but you might want to delete this post because apparently you are giving out information about the type of questions you have had when you took your previous DAT by making statements like "I could've sworn that the majority of the questions were ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION AND ANIMAL BEHAVIOR in the BIO section." and thereby violating DAT, SDN and also ADA rules on the no distribution of test material policy. Some members on this forum are very anal retentive and will complain about you saying that you are propagating cheating on here so its best to not take any chances of that happening.

i didn't see any problem with what the OP posted 😕

he did not give out any questions nor any detailed information about the exam. if it makes you feel any better, there were NO ecology, evolution, or animal behavior questions on my exam...mostly genetics, origin of species, cell bio, and phylogeny.

there are many different versions of the DAT that are changed frequently..therefore it is to nobody's advantage to give out the topics that appeared on his or her exam.

I personally dont have a problem with what the OP posted but apparently some people unfortunately do. I also dont come on SDN to look for exact DAT questions posted by other members because that is ******ed and the possibility of the exact question showing up on my test as well is extremely remote.

I agree with you jb but there are some people on this forum who think that talking about the topics that have shown up on any previous DAT's or example questions pertaining to the test will somehow jeopardize their chances of getting into D school.

WOW, I'm kinda amazed about how people are so freaking ANAL about stuff like that, but anyways I wrote that to tell everyone my story of my first time taking the DAT and what I experienced when I toke it and I wrote the post so I can get some feed back or advice I can use to help prepare better for it that I did B4, bec seriously this thing has taken up allot of my time and all I've been doing is waken up and going to the library every day hoping I'll be ready to take it in MAY, don't get me wrong I hate standardized tests because to me I don't think they prove anything, I have 20 friends who are in dental schools all over the country and they always tell me about the ppl in their classes that score 20's and up on their DATs and end up repeating the year over again!!! So you can say im one of those ppl that are not good at those exams but I'm suffering just like everyone else hoping ill get a good score to get in somewhere... BUT SERIOUSLY I WOULD REALLY APPREACIATE IF ANY ONE CAN TELL ME SOME GOOD STUDY TOOLS BESIDES THE KAPLAN BOOK, I HAVE DESTROYER AND TOPSCORE, BUT I NEED SOME GOOD READING MATERIAL. thank guys

If someone posted exact DAT questions on this site, all of you predents better take advantage of it, and try to help you get a solid score. The scores on the DAT for this upcoming 2008 cycle are going to be out of this world, so any little bit of help will count

This is true, its a random assortment of questions pulled from a questions bank that the DAT has, I took my DAT twice, and I remember seeing atleast 10 of the exact same questions word for word on the second exam, that I had experienced on the 1st

That pretty much sums it up. Study kaplan first just to build a base of knowledge. Expand on that using Destroyer which will help you solidify some of that knowledge and will also give you a fresh approach that will help you more than you can imagine on the DAT...

I've done a bunch of Topscore, Kaplan and Achiever and I would say that I felt confident when using them. It also made me think I know a good amount of stuff. When I went to the destroyer it was a whole different ball game. The questions challenged me which I liked, and the solutions really helped me understand why the answers were correct, and most important, why the wrong answers were wrong. There are also question in the Destroyer that you would never see in any other book. I'm planning on studying the destroyer book inside out and I would recommend anyone else to do the same. I feel that its preparing me for the Dat better than anything else..so it just might do the same for you! But I will still continue to do problems from Topscore, Kaplan and Achiever..because it's good to switch things up. Good luck😀
