As im going through the problems for some of the gchem, quite a lot of the the ochem and some of the math destroyer for the first time, I catch myself having to look back at the answers quite a lot to start and then once i see the answer I learn it and do it on my own..... Is that okay the first time around? Some of the problems I just get super stumped on 🙁

Am I still learning the material and did anyone else have the same problems first time around?

thanks!

I assume that you reviewed all of chad's videos and done quizzes.
Try to do destroyer without time constraint first time but do 30 problems at a time and do not look back to answers after doing each question. Finish chunk of 30 and then review answer for all you got wrong.
Remember First time Destroyer will drive you crazy but you will be fine if you review answers as you do problems in chunk of 30. What I did was, I also went back after finishing destroyer once, I reviewed all I got wrong together second time.

I got 73% right for GCHEM
55% right for OCHEM

First time around was the hardest for me. I got less than 30% of the questions right. Typically I did 50 questions of each subject a day and then went back to check my answers and review. Your strategy is similar so I don't see a problem. The important thing is to remember HOW to do a question and why it is correct. (don't end up remembering which answer is right when you go through the book a second time and/or maybe even a third time)
Destroyer definitely teaches you a lot that KBB / other sources don't so yes, you'll still be learning the material.

I ended up getting a 22AA on the real DAT last summer, so don't sweat it too much.

Good luck studying 🙂

I just took the DAT today. I made a 30 GC, 29 OC, 21 QR. I thought the Destroyer was complete overkill. If you do Chad's and KNOW IT, that's all you need. I had an awesome OC background so I did well on the destroyer my first time through. However, even after watching Chad 3x, I stunk at the GC in destroyer. I ended up doing it twice, but it was so much harder than the real test. Don't be discouraged.
Math was just bleh. I knew all the trig in the Destroyer and Chad's, but I think I had to know the laws of sines/cosines and such, which I didn't! Time was the biggest issue here for me. I went through tests 1-6 a few times, but I never really did so well on them. I didn't have any ridiculously hard rate problems on my test. Hallelujah!

Lol I am really praying that I don't get a ridiculous rate problem similar to math destroyer.

Oh gawd, I'm going through Destroyer for the first time and I honestly feel like an idiot; I get about 30-40% right for every 30ish problems I do. I've already gone through Chad's videos (bless that man), and took copious notes. Every time I do a set of Destroyer problems, I check against my Chad notes and it's like, "Ohhhh yes, I remember this somewhat." And then I try and understand the mechanism and whatnot.

Definitely crossing my fingers for a less painful time for Destroyer round two.

Do the problems from OC and GC Destroyer accurately reflect the actual DAT? Or are Chad's quizzes more accurate?

Thank you so much everyone!!!!!!! This was so helpful...im taking my test late september sometime....Ive gone through all the content and almost done with destroyer for the 1st time. How many times did you guys go through destroyer to get killer scores?

I went through it twice, but I didn't start on it until about 2 weeks before my test. I really attribute my success to Chad, though, not the destroyer.

This is how I used the destroyer

1.I dismantled the book into two separate booklets one booklet questions only and the other with the answers (I hate having to flip back and forth)
2.Went through the questions 30 at a time (i.e. 1-30 31-61.....so forth)
3.Restudying only the ones I got wrong and that's it.

I studied for the chem sections for a total of 10 days, but then again I'm a chem major.

However, I did notice that the Destroyer does cover most of the topics going in intervals of 30 starting with question 1.

I suggest you use Qvault as well since you can easily pin down your weak spots.

DAT Destroyer=Overkill
Qvault=Uncannily similar

thanks smurf12 and glimmer12.

glimmer12 when I try clicking on your breakdown I cant see anything? I would love to see how you studied to get that 26!

I'm wondering the same thing... anyone who has taken the dat having used both chads and destroyer have some input here? Thanks in advance 🙂
