Hi Everyone!

Just finished up the DAT for my first time. I'm new to the boards, so any opinions/advice/constructive criticism would be great!

PAT: 19
Bio: 18
Gchem: 20
Ochem: 23
QR: 19
RC: 21
TS: 20
AA: 20

PAT- Ehh. I think I took a hit here on the angles and hole punching. Everything else was quite reasonable.

Bio- 👎. So many random questions on this section. I was hoping to do better considering this is my major but I don't think another month of studying would have helped much here.

Gchem- Not too bad. Very few calculations, and no logs!

Ochem- I thought this part was cake and was really surprised I didn't get a higher score. :d

QR- Pretty much what I expected, but time is always a factor here!

RC- No FRAP or piano! My passages were all pretty interesting too.

What do you guys think? I'm applying for the 2010 cycle with around a 3.6 GPA cumulative and in the sciences. I have a pretty strong resume with a bunch of EC's and shadowing. Not sure if I want to take the test again though so Im hoping for some advice!

Thanks!!!

congratulation, nice scores, 👍
Gchem and organic scores is exactly like mine. apply early and you will be set.

Hi Everyone!

...RC- No FRAP or piano! My passages were all pretty interesting too.

What do you mean by "FRAP" and more importantly by "piano"?

I just took the DAT and had an RC section on Piano making.
I answered every question in all three sections of the RC and still had 16 minutes left over. So, I went back and confirmed every answer...AGAIN....and I still only got a 19 in RC. I was floored.
So, please explain what you mean by "piano" as I'm quite intrigued now.

Thanks,

Justin (2thDMD)

Hey guys, thanks for the responses so far!

I studied for this for a little over a month during my winter break, mainly spending time on bio and taking a few practice tests, especially for the PAT.

For bio I used an older kaplan blue book, Third edition. It came with a CD that had a practice computer based very similar to the real DAT on it. I also used a few AP bio exam books from my library that they had on reserve. These were helpful for all the stuff I found boring (Plants, animal behavior, ecology+evolution, etc 😴). My anat and phys notebooks were also really helpful.

Gen Chem- Princeton Review AP chemistry 2009. 👍 This book explains everything very well, especially kinetics, redox, and Acids-bases. Also has a lot of practice problems which were the most helpful since they had a format similar to the DAT.

Orgo- Didnt really study too much for this part to be honest. I dusted off my lab manual to refresh my memory on some IR functional groups and other lab stuff, nothing excessive.

RC- took one practice test and kinda just winged it for the real thing. Justin- Around the forums it seems that many others had a version of the DAT which had the piano passage you had or a FRAP (cell bio technique) passage that gave them a rough time. My version had a passage on excercise, addictive substances, and another on genetic defects.

QR- made sure I could do the practice problems I encountered in the kaplan and ADEA practice tests. Helped that I knew my trig for this part but I had to guess on around 3 cause of time.

PAT- any practice test I could get my hands on. Angles were insanely hard and all 4 of them didnt differ by more than 5 degrees it seemed. Also, I thought the holepunching part had a few errors and some of the images on screen weren't too clear as to how fold 2 came from fold 1. Not sure how else to explain it :lame:

As of now Im thinking of applying to ~12 schools, but it may change around app time: Buffalo, Stony, NYU, BU, Tufts, Pitt, Temple, UConn, UMDNJ, VCU, Nova, and Western. Trying not to drift too far from home.

:diebanana:<--- lol?

Awesome scores. You're set.

PS: Where on Long Island are you from? I lived in Plainview until two and a half years ago.

your scores are really good. Nice Job. I have friends who got into almost all of the dental schools they applied to with those grades.
