Hey, just got home from second time around. Here's the scores. Let me know what you guys think. 3.5 science GPA and 3.7 cumulative, 100 hrs+ dentist shadowing, 100+ hospital volunteer, predent committee club council rep, and 2 semesters research, possibility of published paper.

September 4, 2008 (1ST Time) January 23, 2009
PAT 18 PAT 20
QR 16 QR 18
RC 21 RC 22
BIO 18 BIO 22
GC 16 GC 22👍
OC 19 OC 20 :meanie: i thought i did better!!
TS 18 TS 22😀
AA 18 AA 2😀

Here's the complete breakdown:

BIO -I had a lot more ecology questions this time around and none at all the first time. For the most part is was actually pretty straightforward, a few random and I think thats obviously where I lost some points. To study I would recommend Cliffs AP BIO definitely worth it, Kaplan BB, and DESTROYER. The Kaplan subject tests are priceless! Destroyer is more for brushing up rather than learning from. Cliffs is good to start with, especially if you need to refresh.

I'm a bio major so I was hoping on doing a little better, but I have to say my upper level bio courses definitely helped me out when it came to some random questions. Not too upset with a 22 though!

GCHEM - I AM FREAKING ESTATIC ABOUT THIS ONE! I went from a 16 > 22. It was again pretty straight forward, a lot of basic concepts and set ups. Not too many calculations. DESTROYER is definitely a little overkill for obviously it works! I went through the gchem 3 times front and back. KAPLAN BB definitely another recommendation. Some questions seemed almost identical to Kaplan subject tests. Again, if you need to brush up I'd say the Cliffs isn't too bad either, but maybe a little too simple in some sections for DAT. Kaplan is good to start with and then kill it with destroyer.

OCHEM - Im a little upset about the 20, I was shooting for a 22 and higher. Believe it or not orgo has always been my strong point, but I always freak out during tests. Plus I really had to pee !! I think there may have been a mistake on one of the questions and I reported it to the receptionist and she made a note of it. I really only used DESTROYER for orgo, I didn't really use Kaplan except for the subject tests. I also retook old exams I had saved and used my textbook (Francis Carey). Some questions were really a joke and if you did the road maps a couple of times in destroyer you wouldnt even have to look at twice! Know your aromaticity, SN1, SN2, E1, E2 requirements inside and out, acidity, basicity...etc.

RC - I really have nothing to say about this section. I didn't study it at all, I've always been good on RC tests, some tone, some true false, definitions from the reading, etc. I read the passages though, I find it a lot easier to go back and look for the info they want than to search and destroy.

PAT - CDP. Some questions I think were exact. Usually Im not too good with angles but I feel I did well on them, the hole punching was a lot easier than CDP, but my first DAT was much harder. Pattern folding was a little tough and those are my strong points, and aperture passing was really easy. I also think there was a mistake on one pat question. I told the lady about that one too.

Let me know what you guys think. Im going to celebrate so might not be on til later. PM if any questions.

thanks everyone! and i owe all the sdners a big thanks too. everyone on here is very encouraging, and the monsters on this board that kill the test just make you wanna do as good, if not better!

qr wasn't too bad. basically trig, special triangles, rate problems, logs. i used destroyer and kaplan bb for qr. i liked kaplan a lot, a lot of the problems were similar. fair amount of words problems too. i honestly ran out of time on qr but i made some "educated guesses".

i was very surprised with pat. i thought it was going to be a little more tough, i probably made some stupid mistakes, but i found it to be a little easier than my first time around.

what do you guys think about nova? tufts? nyu? any suggestions??

Man, you did great. I'm starting to get nervous about this cycle with how well everyone's been doing on the DAT the past few weeks!

definitely been an amazing week.

dont get bugged out for the high scores, i did a little, but before the test i took like a 10 min walk. listened to some foo fighters and linkin park, got rid of all the stress and smashed it.

the best way to get by this test is to believe that you can do just as good as everyone else on this forum, hence the reason this forum is here. for us to help each other. thanks again sdners.

I live in New York so I am definitely applying to NYU, maybe even Columbia (what's the worse they can say? NO?), Stonybrook, UMDNJ, UPenn, UConn, and some random apps will probably be Tufts, BU, Nova, Arizona, I'm not really too sure. I just going to throw my application to everyone and see who gives me and money and which I like the best.

I wont be entering til Fall 2010 so I have time to check out some schools and see which suits me best. What do you guys think I should start doing now? Try getting to know some admissions reps? Email them? Call? Any suggestions? Being that I have the time I want to try to get them to know who I am.

You might as well email/call and speak with them and ask about their programs to get your name out there. A lot of schools also have days where you can tour the school and meet the Dean (for schools that are nearby).

Also, if you haven't already, get that personal statement done. I didn't start my personal statement until AADSAS was already open so that delayed my application. Get everything ready for your application so you can get it in early!

Also, my school offered interview workshops. If your school has them I would try to get into some to get yourself comfortable with the many interviews you will be receiving.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the input guys. Im actually going to Florida in a few weeks and called Nova for a tour, but they said they don't do dental school tours so I emailed the admissions advisor and might meet with them.

I dont even have the slightest clue as to where to begin my personal statement. Did anybody check out any sources for them?

wow wonderful improvement!! even that 18 is good and everything else is 20's. apply early (and i mean that) and u will have SOOO Many opportunies!!!! i applied kinda late and received many post dec 1 interviews =(... and its harder to get in at that point too..

good luck!
