Hi everyone,

I just took the DAT on May 20th and got the following scores:

PAT: 19
QR: 18
Reading Comprehension: 23
Biology: 19
General Chemistry: 21
Organic Chemistry: 21
Total Science: 20
Academic Average: 20

This was my second time taking the DAT and I got the following scores the first time:

PAT: 16
QR: 22
Reading Comprehension: 19
Biology: 21
General Chemistry: 21
Organic Chemistry: 20
Total Science: 21
Academic Average: 21

As you can see, I did worse on the sciences overall and on math even though my percentile on my academic average remained the same. The reason I retook the DAT was to improve my PAT score. I applied the past cycle to 6 schools and got 4 interviews but no acceptances and 1 waitlist. I was wondering if I will be competitive this cycle (especially for Maryland as I am a resident) even with my decreased DAT score. My GPA is 3.70/3.63 btw.

Below is a breakdown of the DAT I took and what I used to study:

Study Materials: Cliffs AP Biology, DAT Destroyer, Top Score, Crack DAT PAT, DAT Achiever, Kaplan Blue Book

Biology: I thought the biology section was very straightforward and felt very prepared by using just Cliffs AP Biology and DAT Destroyer. In fact, many questions from my test were in those two texts. I was unsure of about 3 problems though not because of the subject but the wording of the question. Other than that, nothing really surprised me here.

Chemistry: This section was very easy compared to Achiever and even Topscore as you do not need to do much calculation. Just remember your gas laws. There were a couple of conceptual questions that I was unsure about. Other than that, I would say the Kaplan Blue Book and DAT Destroyer did a very good job of preparing me.

Organic Chemistry: This section wasn't too bad either. The reactions were common ones and the only trouble I had in this section was some of the conceptual questions. DAT Destroyer is indispensable for this section.

Reading Comprehension: This section seemed very very easy to me and I finished with about 15 minutes to go. I read through the article first and then addressed the questions, making sure I jotted notes about each paragraph. The subject in the articles were also pretty interesting which made this section very pleasant. I didn't do any preparation for this section other than read.

Quantitative Reasoning: I honestly ran out of time on this section. I didn't think the questions were that bad; it's just time management here. DAT Achiever math questions were very similar.

PAT: I thought I would have done better in this section as I did horrible the first time. I was a lot more relaxed this time and actually thought the PAT section was easier than the practice tests I had taken. Crack DAT PAT was a very valuable tool. In the end, I ran out of time as I spent too much time on TFE so I didn't have a chance to answer the 3 questions I skipped.

Moral of the Story: Pace yourself and work quickly!

Please let me know if you want to purchase any study materials from me or if you want help studying.

Nice scores... congrats..

i would see this as getting above 17 in all the sections...

I would say apply in more than 6 schools if possible and considering that your are applying early...I think you should be fine..

Is the DAT Destroyer Organic Chemistry harder than the actual test?
What about for gen chemistry?
Thanks

actually, you didn't do worst, you did better. I'll explain what I mean...

There is not much difference between a AA/TS 21/21 vs 20/20, however your PAT and RC went up huge, thats what matters the most

good job 👍

Thanks for the replies guys. As for your question Mary, the DAT is much easier than the DAT Destroyer practice questions. I found the roadmaps to be extremely useful as well as the conceptual questions. Be sure to read through all the solutions as they give you a comprehensive understanding of the material (more than enough for the DAT). Hope this helps!
