Ay so check this out I took my DATs like a week and a half ago,
PAT 22
QR 23
RC 21
BIO 24
GC 19
OC 26
TS 22
AA 23
There's a catch tho - I have a 3.1 GPA! (3.2 sci)
For comfort purposes, I ain't the smartest cat out there, and I was SURPRISED to see those scores when they popped up. I had never scored that high on any practice exam I took.
Anyhoo to study I used the Kaplan book and Princeton Review MCAT books, and for practice I had TopScore. I was studyin real hard for like 4 weeks (I had no other commitments). Kaplan is pretty straight for errything, just for bio it is a little shallow so I copped my friend's PR books for that and ended up referring to it for GC and orgo too (I bought Schaum's Biology too but I read a couple chapters of that and I was like....naw - this piece is too much lol).
PAT: Seems like one of them inherent types of things. I usually scored around 19-20 on Kaplan and TopScore. I think maybe my sense of urgency during the real thing made me focus more, which is key on the PAT. If you're comfortable with the general ways that things work in things you practice with, the DAT's being "harder" will not necessarily translate to a lower score - the shapes and stuff are just a little more complex.
QR: I got a 800 on SAT math. I actually didn't think I missed any but I musta missed like 3 or sum'n. TopScore was very good practice and indication of performance.
RC: Lol I can't read for $h1t so I just looked for the answers in the passage. When practicing, I used to read first and then answer, but on TopScore, I tried this answer-searching/not-actually-reading technique and it was a good call for a REAL slow reader like maself.
Bio: A fair amount but not a whole lot of of physiology. However, there's a lot of molecular bio and genetics-type stuff on there. Also, it seemed to be more critical thinking rather than simple regurgitation of facts. Kaplan was sufficient for all those weird topics (ecology, plants, taxonomy, etc). TopScore has good questions. I studied hard for this tho. Like, real hard. And I was scoring around 20 on practices, so I think there was some (undeserved) divine intervention on this one 🙂
GC: Had always been my weakest section. I definitely benefited from reading both the Kaplan and the PR books for this. Each have a couple things the other doesn't have, but all in all, either one is sufficient.
OC: Had always been among my better sections (along with QR). I did well in school in orgo. For reviewing, Kaplan was quite sufficient - know it inside and out and you will score high.
Holla with feedback about my chances, prolly not too great with my grades...(my EC's and stuff are prolly averagish, nothing special).
