Okay folks, writing this a little bit tipsy so please bear with me but I thought I should give back to the forum that has helped me quite a bit. This shall be brief.

Study time- 2 weeks of full time studying, and about a semester of extremely half assed studying. Took pretty much every practice material Kaplan had to offer and went back to correct my tests.

Study Materials

1)KBB
2) All of the Kaplan practice tests- I scored about a 19 AA
3)Princeton Review MCAT GChem, Ochem, Bio

1) Bio- I scored a 27. This score definitely uplifted the rest of myscores. KBB + Cliffs bio (my friend had some notes from Cliffs, I didn't have the book itself) should suffice.
2) Gchem- 20- KBB prepared me just fine, as this is what I had been getting on their tests.
2) Ochem- 20. KBB was enough for this. I knew that inside and out and the test really didn't throw me any loops. I didn't find it to be very reaction centric, I kinda wasted my time learning ALL of the Ochem 1 reactions.

PAT- Kaplan is a bloody joke. Look elsewhere, especially for Angle ranking and Hole punching. Crikey. Thankfully a salvaged an 18. Fin.

RC- I read half the passage, answered questions that I could, read the rest, and did the rest of the questions. Came out with a 20. Kaplan was adequate except that the actual exam asked questions a bit differently. Kaplan was more facts oriented and the exam asked for your knowledge of the material gained during the reading of the passage. I think thats all I can say withotu getting into hot water 😀

QR- I thought I had bombed this section but salvaged a 20. Kaplan was good enough here. Just pace yourself and skip the questions you don't know, I thought I had gotten creamed here but did reasonably.

22 AA and 22 TS. Pretty happy, hopefully this will bring schools to look past my 3.25 Sci and 3.43 overall. Fingers crossed.

Cheers! Hopefully this will give the Kaplan guys some place to start. All in all I would say Kaplan works for almost everything except for PAT. And I would suggest supplementing each science section with another bit of material just to cover all your bases.

good scores. 👍

can you expand on not finding the orgo portion to be very "reaction centric"?

Strong DAT + decent GPAs = you are competitive.

I am actually amazed you got 18 in PAT with just kaplan. I've seen people gets like 15s and 16s with Kaplan alone... so you are definitely ahead of the curve

Te entire section is kinda fuzzy in my memory, but for example, I went through my organic chem textbook and at the back of every chapter they have EVERY reaction discussed. I went back and made sure to learn everyone. Wasn't really necessary. I'd say brush over those so theyre familiar (definitely learn the major ones such as aldol & claisen condensations, diels-alders, wittig, etc), but definitely focus more on general trends regarding groups and their chemical properties (EG, amides area poor leaving group)and concepts, and know alot about stereospecificty of reactions. I think Ochem and Gchem are more about knowing how to attack the problems than having a large "toolbox of equations" so to speak. JMO.

I've got some cool extracurrics I hope brings me over the edge. for example i just got back from a drift day at a race track and now i am on my way to a rugby tournament. You might or might not be able to catch me playing on NBC and Versus on Saturday. Probably best to leave it there for privacy's sake LOL.

I got a 23 on the PAT with only Kaplan.

What did you think about Kaplan overall? I haven't taken the DAT since 2003 and have heard mixed reviews about the course. My primary reason for enrolling was to force me to study...

I think that the course (which I didn't take) would be great for someone who cannot get themselves to focus. I'll admit that I lost my focus a few times but it's important to stay motivated. I only used the KBB (blue book) and it really wasn't a very good study asset.
