So here are my scores. I'm a little worried about my math score...it's sooo hard though.

PA: 20 (85.4)
QR: 14 (25.8)
RC: 23 (94.5)
Bio: 20 (86.9)
GC: 17 (49.1) 😡 I thought I did better here.
OC: 20 (81.3)
TS: 20 (86.2)
AA: 19 (77.2)

What do you guys think? My GPA is a 3.66 and my sGPA is a 3.5. I have stellar EC's and ridiculously good letters of rec. Do I stand a chance?

thanks,

Gorrilla

I highly recommend rewriting..

With 14 and 17, I don't think you are going to get any interviews...

I think your scores are going to get you interviews, but unfortunately i think your math is off by 1 point in term of acceptance. I just recently spoke with dean of student affairs at OU, and he said just get a 15 in math, and you will be good. With that said, why did you think GC was so hard? what did you use to study? It kind of freaks me out that you thought it was so hard.

I didn't think it was terribly difficult, in fact I thought I did a little better than a 17. I used Kaplan and DAT destroyer. I think I just choked to tell you the truth. 😡

with that GPA, I just don't see you not be competitive enough.

sure everyone wants a 25AA but lets be realistic here, the national average for those who get accepted to dental schools is approx 19.2-19.3, which is right around your ally. Top it off with your great science/overall GPAs and your golden

Good job👍

Do you honestly think that 14 will kill my chances though? I'm really worrying about it.

Is this a rhetorical question? Schools use electronic filter system to filter large sums of applications out before they start actually looking at individual applications.

14 will be swept down and they would not even get a chance look at the scores....

Not only that, 17 on GC will definitely be a red flag as well. \

Just retake, you have nothing to lose.

Good luck!

Interesting that you know all this..But how exactly do you know all this? Reading what other people have heard other people say? Or have spoken to all the "school's" admission officers?

I agree with Dentalworks... with ur GPA u have a good chance..

one thing I would add is....keep your options open and apply to several schools..ofcourse if moving is not an issue for you..

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I'm going to definitely apply this cycle with these scores and just HOPE that they will look past my brutal QR score. But I'm gonna go with your advice and just apply to as many schools as possible. 🙂

I have heard from at least one school that you need at least a 17 in every category in order to apply.

It just depends on the school, and I've even heard from some people that some schools overlook their own minimum score req for good apps (especially if it's just QR)

Not according to predents.com
Considering I was talking to them from across a table I think I'll tend to trust them more, but this was only at one school.

But to address your initial question, yes I believe coupled with your GPA and the fact that you can apply early, you should get some interviews. I would contact the schools you're applying to ask them about it and possibly start studying again/keep the material fresh in the event that you don't receive any pre-dec 1st interviews. I think you're fine but it's better to play it safe than sorry.

What school was it you were talking to so that I will avoid it.lol

Yeah. I heard this from PENN and Columbia's admission officers directly.

Unfortunately they don't have time to go through all the application individually and manually. 🙁

Well then it's good that I'm not applying to those schools anyways.lol

not ALL schools have the 17 cutoff.... as matter of fact, most schools DO NOT have any sort of cutoffs... especially when wer talking about math

but like avery said, OP you need to call up some schools, make you base your decision on what they tell you. Everyone around SDN trys to act like an admin from time to time, don't listen to us!!!!

see, asians usually get 20+ in math. It's easier for asians and it's not a stereotype.
I was expecting you to get 20+ on this cause u were so confident that the stereotype was not true. Oh well.
But, caucasians usually get 20+ in RC while other race get around 14-20 on it. So it's equal.
I think you need a retake though

I really am fairly good at math, but I just choked big time...and us jews are still good at math.

And I've been calling around to some schools and 90% of them are telling me I still definitely have a chance...so I guess we'll see.

from the various schools I've talked to, they all seem to respect the RC FARRRR more than the math.... and you've destroyed the RC so I really think your RC >>>>> QR.

If 90% of schools are telling you that your good, then maybe my first instincts were correct!! you don't need the retake 🙂

Don't let that 14 bring you down. It's a pretty insignificant section. You did well on the rest of the test. Schools will see this and consider your scores competitive. Unless it's the ones with the a cutoff. You'll have to call and figure out those. Otherwise good job and try not to let that 14 haunt you throughout the cycle. Focus on the sections you did well on and begin the cycle with some confidence. If you don't get in the cycle, then you can consider taking the test again.

Thanks for the kinds words, man. That's kind of the hint I got from a few of them. I'm trying to discard my math score, but it's always there haunting me.haha But yes, I'm definitely going to apply asap and just hope. Thanks for the kind words though.

By the way FutureDent, are you planning on going to U of Louisville? I noticed you're from there. Have you been accepted there or are you going to apply? I went there once and it is really nice....love it.

Yea, that's what I kind of got from them. Not to mention I got A's in Pre-calculus, Calculus, and BioStats so that might show them that I just had an off day in my math.

Yea, I chose to attend the school. I'm from N.C. and just moved up here so I changed my location. I applied last cycle. Check out my predents http://www.predents.com/?page=user&user_id=4644.
I didn't rock the DAT and faired just fine. Louisville doesn't put much emphasis on the QR at all. A couple of kids at my interview had 14's and 15's on that section. And I had a 16. So consider applying there.

Sweeeeet. Thanks a lot man. Hopefully I can catch ya there in a few years? 👍

retake it, your qr is horrible. to dental school that means you can't concentrate after 3 hours

and how do you know you have VERY GOOD LETTERS if you haven't looked at them already

14 QR....
17GC....

You MIGHT get in somewhere if the rest of your application blows them away and you apply to ALOT of school.

People have gotten in with such scores but your just cutting it short.
