This is my second time taking the DAT and here are my scores..
PAT: 22 (96.2)
QR: 20 (89.3)
RC: 21 (84.5)
BIO: 22 (95.7)
GC: 20 (81.3)
OC: 19 (73.1)
TS: 21 (92.4)
AA: 20 (87.1)
I really don't know what happened to my ochem (my 1st test I got 21). I had no NMR/IR question this time, but a lot of property problems. and a few reaction problems. I didn't think it was that hard, but maybe I just made stupid mistakes.
Anyways, I think most people are more interested on what topscore/achiever scores looked like so here they are:
Topscore: (bio/gc/oc/pat/rc/qr)
#1: 18/19/19/22/17/24
#2: 20/23/25/24/20/22
#3: 19/21/30/22/19/25
Achiever, I honestly thought it was a waste of money. After I took a look at the first test questions, I decided that I'm only going to be working on bio/pat/qr problems in there. It is ridiculously hard and it really doesn't help with your DAT.
So my achiever BIO scores were:
16/16/15/14/16 (yes i purchased the 5 tests packet.. stupid me)
QR, I only did three out five sets: 19/18/20
and for PAT, I just decided to do two because topscore one was too easy I thought: 18/19 (achiever PAT is actually a really good practice cuz they are just craaaazy. actual DAT seems so easy afterwards!) -- my first topscore was sort of like my diagnostic. started on my PAT about 2 weeks before the exam.
Honestly, as a second time taker, I think it really does depend on which type of test you get. I didn't study that much more compared to my first test, but I just thought the test questions were way easier. For the bio section on my 1st DAT, I've had like 4-5 questions that had protein names that I have never even heard of.. but this time, the questions were really simple and concise. I had no question that I was like "HUH?!?!" 😛
My first DAT scores were 19AA/20TS/21PAT and I'm currently STILL waitlisted at Pittsburgh and Tufts. giving up my hope there 🙁
My scores of academic average, total science, and PAT only went up by one and I'm a bit concerned whether I need to pull up by like 3 points to show an improvement. My cGPA is 3.3 and sGPA 3.2. Extracurricular activities = 2000+ hrs of research (two papers published), 500+ hrs volunteer, 100+ hrs dental assistant experience (still going).
Should I consider about a re-take at all? (my bio was the biggest improvement of 18 ---> 22.. trust me, achiever was not a part of this improvement.. Reading comprehension went from 18 to 21. but the percentile was from like 40 percentile to 84.5.. but I think the official DAT score report does not have this percentile section?)
Lastly, here are the materials I used.
Bio: Kaplan BB, AP Cliff's Bio, Destroyer
GC: Kaplan BB, Destroyer, Chad's video
OC: Kaplan BB, Destroyer, Chad's video
for Chad's video, I only watched those sections that I wasn't too comfortable with (I purchased it like 2 weeks before the test, so didn't have the time).
RC: didn't know how to study.. so only Topscore, which doesn't really help because Topscore questions are easy to do if you're using search and destroy technique. For the real DAT, I just decided to read through the whole passage b/c they ask a lot of tone questions + true/false statement about the whole passage. I think I just got lucky by getting easy passages (DNA microarray, Brain/Language, Calcium) -- it was actually very fun to read and very informative 🙂 seems like a lot of people are getting 3 science passages now?
QR: Math Destroyer!!! I didn't look at any of the DAT destroyer math b/c that is what I used last time and I got a 17.. also depends on what type of questions you get I guess. Math Destroyer had A LOT of similar questions to my QR section. Plus it helps you to manage time wisely, so it really helps! plus, Achiever QR was also good and I guess my Achiever QR results look similar to my real DAT.
Overall, I'm just happy that it's done!! Any advice will be really appreciated!
