Hi all. I'm taking the DAT next week and need advice. I am stressing I am going to fail it as I feel I did not prepare as much as I should have. I used Jack Westin's free dat prep to study for the past 2 months but I do not think that helped me at all. I was going to take the 2 free practice tests it provides but now they aren't showing up on the course so I emailed them to tell me why they disappeared as I need them to prepare. However, I took the free bootcamp practice test and got a 16 AA then just took the Kaplan free practice test and got a 14 AA on it (I don't think it's accurate bc it didn't have all of the pat and rc questions like the actual dat). I am going to take more practice tests this week but I need advice on what to do. Should I push the test date back or should I take it and hope for the best and retake it eventually?

Also I graduated college this May within 3 years with a 3.9 GPA and have over 70 hours of shadowing. I also am in a dental assisting program to increase my knowledge in dentistry before dental school and I have excellent letters of recs.

Please let me know yalls thoughts.

It's not a great idea to retake it, try to do your best the first time (just to save yourself the stress and money). Probs best to delay it. Try another bootcamp practice test to see where there are content gaps. Don't rush it, seriously. You have such a good gpa, it isn't necessary to aim for the moon or anything, but 20+ is a way better spot to be at than 16.

Experiencing anxiety is a common part of the process. Relying solely on any timed predictive test to forecast your exact DAT score can be misleading. I've heard from students who have scored both higher and lower than their predicted scores. With your excellent GPA and a strong foundation in the subjects, you should do well. The ADA also provides timed exams, which are crafted by their team and are the closest to the actual exam. However, no test can predict scores with complete accuracy.

I hope this helps.

Hey all. I took the DAT today and after stressing and not feeling prepared I got an 18AA unofficial score. Just wanted to update since I didn’t know if I should push the test back or not. Now this shows that even though I didn’t use a great prep course, you could still get a better score than what you think you would.

I think I am going to retake it, but I need advice if I should. I know if I retake it, that score won’t be in time before some schools’ application deadlines especially my top choice’s deadline oct 15 but also it will be for other schools like my second choice’s deadline jan 1. Should I retake?

I wouldn't retake the DAT unless these scores don't meet the requirements for your preferred dental school. Congratulations on making it through the DAT exam!

Just my supportive and encouraging two cents,

Nancy
