Just got back from the test center. Here are the scores. I'll write up a full review in a few hours, I'm just so tired. What do you guys think? I'm a chem major (my school is well known for chemistry), but I have a 2.7 GPA. I'm a minority, good letters and lots of hours shadowing and I volunteer and help at under privileged middle schools. Do I even stand a shot? I'm a second time applicant. This is also the 2nd time I've taken the DAT. The first time i got 16's and 17s...(problem was timing)

How is it that scoring in the 95th percentile only gets me a 20 on QR?

You have a waay below average GPA so you need to make up for it by getting stellar DAT scores.

Because no school cares about QR so nobody really studies for it. I straight up guessed all of the trig question on the real DAT and got a 19 on QR

Do you think schools will factor in the idea that I majored in something difficult like chemistry?

they will to a small extent but I feel there are many chem and bio majors that go into dentistry. Its hard to say man...is there anyway you can take some science classes to bump that gpa up?

Average GPA for entering dental students is like 3.4-3.5ish...2.7 is pretty low. It doesn't matter what major you pursue for healthcare and I don't know if adcoms consider certain majors as harder than others because you can't really compare some of them. Literature might be cake for some or hard for others. Physics may be cake for some but really hard for others. It doesn't really matter. The major you choose is on your own liking. My suggestion is do a post-bacc program and STRIVE for a 4.0 GPA ...and I mean work you butt off.

You think most people have degrees in Martial Arts🙂. Why should they factor your chemistry degree in? How is it more difficult than say biochem, bio, or any other degree?

Yeah I guess u guys are right. It's my fault for picking a major I never fully enjoyed and making it more difficult then it seemed. I don't think I'd have enough time to bring up the GPA that much this application round. I'm going for a 4.0 next quarter when I graduate, and I know I can do this as long as I buckle down and get my priorities straight. Hopefully when I update AADSAS with my final fall quarter grades that'll give them something to think about. I really hope so. Otherwise it's gonna be time to bust ass in a post bac or masters after I grad.

Berkeley perhaps? :O
I heard their Chem program is top-notch!

Congrats on being done, I think it's worthy to note there's improvement in your scores!
I would also recommend doing a post-bacc 🙂
Good luck!

i heard shadowing helps a ton. If you have a lot of good extracurriculars it could boost your strength as an applicant.
