I was really surprised with my scores
. I did a lot better than I expected because I thought my bio and PAT were quite difficult. I studied over the span of two months for maybe 2-4 hours per day, but procrastinated a lot, so I didn't study as much as a lot of others here on SDN. I probably don't deserve this score for the amount of studying I did 😛.
PAT: I used CDP. I got the one with the five tests, but ended up only doing two because I got bored with it (I scored 20, 23). I thought the keyhole, TFE, and angle ranking were similar to CDP if not harder. There were some really strange shapes in the keyhole questions and one or two TFE ones where I couldn't really picture in my head. For angle ranking, I used the rapid glance technique. The cube counting, hole punching, and pattern folding were easier than CDP in my opinion.
QR: I used Math Destroyer, but I only did the first four exams and then I got bored with it
. I've always been good at math so I didn't really study much for this section. I didn't really get that many word problems on my exam. Maybe I got lucky. I thought the questions in Math Destroyer were harder than the ones on the real exam.
RC: I didn't study for this section at all and I was pretty nervous about it going in to the test. I've always been pretty bad at reading sections, such as the SAT reading comprehension, but I thought the RC questions were far easier than those on the SAT. I guess I got lucky with the passages, because they were all pretty interesting. I got a quantum physics passage, but it wasn't that bad. It had I think 12 or 14 paragraphs and most of the questions were simply S&D.
Bio: I read through KBB and Barron's AP Bio, but I didn't take any notes and then I did Destroyer twice. I'm a bio major, but I thought the bio questions were pretty difficult. It was definitely as random as everyone says it is. I probably could have studied more, but I got tired of studying.
GC/OC: I've always been good at chemistry since both my parents are organic chemists. I read through KBB and did Destroyer twice. I thought that the questions on the DAT were definitely easier than the ones in Destroyer, but it was still good practice and I was able to fully understand a lot of the concepts. In my opinion these were the easiest sections on my exam. I was really surprised that the reactions asked in OC were all really simple ones.
I'm only a junior, so I won't be applying to dental school until next year, but I wanted to get the DAT out of the way since I had just finished taking all my ochems last semester. I highly suggest doing this because it really helped cut down the amount I had to study since I basically still remembered everything from my classes.👍
