i took my dat today.iam not happy with my result.

did any one had any reading comp on earth, mRI and something like NIDDM

also, what was with the reading comp. it was different the way worked compare to kaplan or top score or even archiver. for reading i have to bent my head i could not see very well if i wanted to have the page and question at the same time.

biology i thought iam doing so bad i did fine. but i have some questions
did any one got some thing about todpole that took of its tail or some thing and make another frog?

another one about interferon or some thing 1 and 2.
another bio was about taking of 2 embryo cell from a growing cell then what happens to emberyo?

in gchem i had some thing like ch2 ___________ ch2 and was asking how many pi bond and sigma bond has?
the answers was 1,5
1,4 4,1 and some others.
i do not know but i think my test was different from anybody els. i did not have any kind of calculation for my general chem. defintly i would say kaplen way way was easier in every thing even general chem.

one question i want to retake the test. do you think i would qalify for this year any more i have to retake the test at the end of november or begging of december. what should i do? 😡

I know you might feel embarassed - I know I was really embarassed about my scores and didn't want to tell people, but I figured the only way I was going to get useful, productive feedback was to tell people honestly what I got so they could offer advice. I'm sure they're not that bad!

Don't be shy, I know just how you're feeling a year ago, heh, so share the wealth, I'm sureit wasn't too bad, right? well i should say some thing eles too. i have been living in this country for just 5 years. and my gpa is 3.87

i just do not know what should i do for pat and reading comp. i practice alot. even i got some totur for pat from kaplan still did not help me. iam so sad that i do not what should i study for three months in row i just studied 12 hours a day and i did not have any fun but my result are so bad.

That does suck, sorry to hear. unfortunately, the truth is your probably going to run into some problems with your RC and PAT scores. if i remember correctly, schools have a cuttoff around 15, which means no scores should be below 15. however, in your case, PAT and RC are very important sections since a dentist should have a decent level of perceptivity and a scientist should be able to comprehend reading passages. having said that, i suggest you retake the DATs. gl.

What i want to know is how in the ##%$#^&#$%@#$!#$@@#%%^$^ ck did you get those DAT scores with a 4.0 gpa. a 4.0 gpa to means you know your stuff your base in all the sciences is top notch and u basically know alot. Your DAT scores does not represent your gpa at all. weird anyways good luck i almost have the same scores as you except missing the stellar gpa. Maybe we can get in somewhere

If you are an international student, I think you should retake DAT because international students are extremely competitive. They usually get 23 or above.

Basically, I didn't really have much time to study for the DAT. I spent the majority of my summer taking 10 credits of physics, which only left me with a week or so for studying, since I really wanted to get my test done with before the fall semester started. However, my plan is to minimize my course load this semester, leaving me time to study like crazy for 90 days and take it (CRUSH IT!) again.

I don't know if it matters if u r international students or not.
I lived in US for last 6 years and have green card. This won't give me any advatange or disadvantage.(Advantage...hopefully 🙂)

Actually, international students like me compete with only international students.
Most public schools do not accept international students and private schools accept them like 1/10.
That's why it is difficult to get into dental school for international students.

hey RING12 i had the same test! the reading sections were odd and i hated that they were at the bottom of the page and not at the top.

at least you did great on your science. i panicked when i saw that embryo question. PAT may be a problem. I girl i know it dental school got a 14 but otherwise good scores on the rest and had to retake it b/c the school told her to. But if you can talk to admissions see what can pan out for you. GOOD LUCK and YOUR DONE!!

Looks like somebody got the same version as I did! I had all those questions that you said! I wonder for a moment if it was my post b/c I am international too! damn that embryo question. even worse than that were all those word problem in QR, I found close to -0- real math problem. I wish no one gets this version!

I could not imagine taking reading comprehension in Spanish or French. Unless you have been speaking english for some time, your RC scores will suffer without major reps. I would recommend more practice until you can grasp the reading well enough to score at least an 18 in that section. Why? Because for english speaking people, the section can be challenging if not taken seriously.

You should be comprehending 2-3 words a second to do well on this section. That is not too much to ask for when you think about it. Just practice reading and understanding at least 180 words a minute. If you can't do that, keep trying until you have it down. Time yourself and make a game out of it.

Under that method I scored a 22 in RC and 90th percentile. Repetition is the key.

taking some time away from dental and dat to improve your overall english is not a bad idea. the reading comp is largely informational and there's not much critical thinking, so reading a bunch of technical writing is good. Wall street journal /NY Times type of stuff maybe.

I recognize every question you posted...I had the same test and my DAT was in July. The reading comp wasn't horrible except for the last reading section on NIDDM whatever, by then, my eyes were hurting just scanning that fast. Some of the questions were tricky, but that's life.

hey don't feek bad at all, I took it last year, and I didn't do well!! well guess what I'm retaking it again this year. Also, for most of the school you have to take it before end/mid december to qualify. If you don't have a busy quarter, definately study and retake it.

I'm sorry, but I really do believe you will do well next time. Being said that you are an international student, they adcom will emphasize on your english comprehension skill, i'm saying this not to scare you, i just want you to be more prepared and competent in front of them. I've also been in this country for only 5 years, so i know what you are going through. RC can be improved by reading a lot; try to develop a reading habit, please try to read at least half an hour or so everyday, read something like reader's digest, Time or Newsweek. These magazines have lots of interesting articles, some of them are health care related, they will not only help you with your english, but also with your knowledge on your future career. Good luck!!!
