Just finished with the DAT!

Here are my scores and below that see comments about each section.

score percentile
PAT: 23 99.0
QR 21 91.2
RC 22 85.3
Bio 22 96.5
Chem 21 88.3
O-Chem 21 86.7
AA 21 92.7

First, I used the DAT achiever and Topscore as sample exams, I also used the Kaplan book that I bought from Barns and Nobles. I made outlines of the bio, chem, and o-chem and reviewed that. Then when I came across new info form practice exams I would add it to my list of info to review.

Science: it was easier then the DATachiever exams, I did have the sea urchin question and the bicarbonate one. There was a little genetics, some evolution (thank god not too much) and a lot on cell stuff (photosynthesis, and cellular respiration). Chem was ok, with simple calculation and dilutions. Ochem was not bad as well. Just make a list of all the reactions and keep going through them over and over until you have memorized them. I studied for about 5-6 hours a day/5days a week (weekends I rested) for about a month.

PAT: The angles were tough, similar to DATachiever. The rest was much, much easier.

QR: Did not have too much trig. Had to solve for X or Y. Had a few word problems.

RC: Had a passage on planets, brain imaging, and neuronal signaling. I first read the passage (in about 6-7 min) then I knew where things were. Then I used about 13-14 min to answer the questions. I used about 20min per passage and ended up having time to review my answers.

If you have any questions or need help, just ask. Thanks for all your guys input and comments. Some of the questions brought up here definitely helped me get ready for the exam.

CHEERS!

Wow nice scores wait in for the interviews, what is your gpa. Any suggestions on where to put more time in studying any particular section more than others.

Also when u say u outlined the sciences did you do them on the computer if so do you have it saved if so is it possible to see it. Thanks

i made all my outlines by hand. just the process of writing it all out helps you learn it and you know exactly where it all is. i used the kaplan book that i got from the book store as a guide for my outlines.

my undergad gpa is 3.35 and my graduate (masters program) is 3.81
i have applied to UCLA, USC, UCSF, UOP, Harvard, Tufts, BU and NYU. i have submitted the application a few weeks ago, a little late, but hopefully i will still get into my #1 choice.

Excellent job, howui3. You deserve those enviable scores with the great amount of efforts put in. Congratulations!! 👍 👍

CHEERS!

Wow, howui, those are absolutely admirable scores!! I remeber how you're once stuck with a simple hole punching question and am really impressed with your determined progress in getting a 23 (a top 1 % candidate) for your PAT ultimately. That vividly show how drastic a change may come into play if you really put in the time and effort together with needful aids from the right test guides. Congratulations!!! 👍 👍 👍

Yep, mitshi, that is me! I remember the problem; I could not understand how they got the correct answer without turning the figure.

With your help and the rest of the SDNs and the practice exams I pulled it off. The holes ended up being my best sections, next to counting cubes which is a freebee.

Just goes to show you, sitting down and practicing will get you the score you want. This exam is relatively easy, it's only 4 hours compared to the 8 hour MCAT and the scores are released right away. And thank god there is not physics!

Thanks again for your help mitshi. Your explanations on the hole punching really helped!
