Well I don't know how much you want a breakdown from me cause obviously I have to retake and I basically want to pretty much crawl under a rock and die... here are my scores :bang:

PAT: 19
QR: 13 🙁
RC: 21 (the only good one)
Bio: 18
GC: 16 :beat: I dont even know how this happened
OC: 18

TS: 17
AA: 17

Bio: HARD!!!!!!!!!! this was the one section i thought i was going to destroy... i'm a bio major and this was what i studied the most. soooo freakin random omg... i got sooo many like biotech questions... like having to do with lab techcniques and things like electrophoresis and that kind of stuff... lot of application questions where you really need a strong foundation in bio to even attempt. i was surprised at this section... it was kind of like achiever i would say... TS was easier in this section however. there were def some easy ones... developmental bio is important... i got nothing about plants!!!! i spent sooo much time of those f'n plants and not a single question!!! WTF... some physiology, def know your biochem. what can i say... know everything and don't skip out on lab stuff.. i had like 5 lab questions i had no idea how to answer

I used: destroyer, cliff's ap bio, barron's ap bio, cambells textbook, and kaplan blue book (don't bother it's not enough)

Gen Chem: I don't know what happened here... all conceptual... like 4 calculations which were easy and i know i got those... all you had to do was set them up... no computation whatsoever. uhhh i dont know what to say i can't believe i got a 16

Orgo: this was easy, i got an 18 which is no good but if you know basic sn1, sn2, e1, e2 you will be fine. I had 3 spectroscopy questions 🙁 no so nice. and i think i messed up on the two questions i had about lab stuff... the reactions were eeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssssssyyyyyyyy... it was the lab stuff and spectroscopy and some other concept stuff that got me here... destroyer is good... but what i found was even better than destroyer was examkrackers 1001 organic chem q's for the mcat. i mean i dont know i didn't do that well so maybe don't listen to me. Topscore is veryyy accurate for orgo right on point.

PAT: easy... get crack dat pat and practice practice practice... i thought i was going to get like a 25 but the one problem was the pattern folding were impossible. i'm not kidding... impossible.
in comparison to CDP.... everything was much easier than CDP except for pattern folding, which was not at all like it 🙁 crazzzy shapes that you really had to picture folded in your mind. i was so excited until i got to that section 🙁

RC: i didn't get frapped or pianooed... i got awesome passages about fungi, american crocidiles and another one i don't remember. Search and destroy baby. although i really would have liked to actually have read the passages they were very interesting.

QR: no words for this ridic section.... 15 &%^%$^%$^$#(*@(#&$(#@ word problems 15!!!!!!!!! i guessed on every single one cause i had to answer the other ones ummm yea impossible. i hate math

So obviously i have to retake. omg i really don't want to 🙁 🙁 i can't believe that after busting my ***** for 3 months i have to do it all over again, especially during the school year.

should i take the kaplan course.. i mean how am i going to practice i don't have anymore topscore or achiever tests and i went through the destroyer 3 times 🙁 what to do?????????? let me know what you guys think

BTW i really appreciate you guys in here, i dont post that often but this is an awesome network and i hope you guys all get in 🙂

Whatever! Some people like you just will not understand untill people kick your *** in life (you know what I mean 🙂)! Nobody asked you to express your opinion about Ms Marinas intelligence. You will only learn when someone kicks your *** in life. Harvard is OK school but there are schools that are better so stop acting like just because you went to Harvard you can insult someones intelligence. Nobody cares what you say on this forum so WHATEVER MAN!

Um, OK?.

I won't address your immature remarks personally attacking me.
I think your opinion of Ms. Marina couldn't be more wrong. I do not know her personally so I can't comment on her work ethic but I am absolutely sure "very intelligent" should not be used to describe her. "Naturally not good at math?" what does that even mean? Yes, some people are more inclined to excel in certain areas, and if you're not as gifted as those people, you will have to put in more effort to make up for that difference - which Ms. Marina has failed to do.

She clearly does not belong here. I still can't comprehend how bad a 13 QR is, that's getting 12 questions out of 40 right. That's getting 28 questions wrong out of 40 questions or receiving a 30% on a test. A similar result could be achieved by guessing on every question with a little bit of luck. In addition, when I consider the difficulty level of QR on the DAT, it boggles my mind how she even achieved a high enough score on the math portion of the SAT to gain an admission to a college.

I, like many others going to dental school, am a combination of natural intelligence and hard work that reach a certain select level. On top of my natural abilities, I personally worked too hard to get to where I am. It offends me a great deal when I have to consider someone like Ms. Marina, who cannot perform basic math, a peer of mine.

I don't think my sentiments are harsh at all, it's just reality. Don't make excuses, only the end result matters. Try your hardest but when it the end, if you can't play with the big boys, look for a different path. Save me the crap about having a passion and love for the field of dentistry and teeth in general. I personally love the game of basketball more than anything and I've never wanted something so bad. I was passionate and I cherished the game a lot more than some of these NBA players who are only in it for the money. But I lacked the natural god given athleticism and height. And you know what, at the end of the day, my best wasn't good enough to make up for that deficit and I accepted it. Granted, becoming a dentist takes a lot less natural abilities than making it in the NBA and it really depends more on your work ethic. So I really have no sympathy at all to those aspiring dental students who can't cut it. To borrow the words of Grammy award winning artist Mr. Timberlake, Cry Me a River.

HBG

HBG is a troll trying to invoke actions from people, and seeing people get offended/annoyed/mad at him will only get him off. he probably made-up the name harvardbiograd JUST to troll. maybe he is bitter because a lot of people on sdn are better off than he is and he is trying to bring you down. what a cutie

:troll:

i can bet my bottom dollar that HBG has never had a girlfriend, nor has he ever gotten l*id. Being book smart will only get you so far, its your personality, the way you treat others and carry yourself that will make you successful.

a Harvard biol undergrad doesnt mean that you will always make more than some1 who went to a public university......it does not guarantee you! But if you do get accepted and become a dentist,,,GL dealing with patients with a mouth like yours.

ditto to a lot of the remarks against Hah-vahd, they were inappropriate and represent the ignorance that even our nations elite are guilty of. anyways, seems like QR and GC need some work, Marina. What types of questions give u the biggest troubles? rate, fractions, complex algebra, Ksp??? I've been a science tutor and TA for several years so please don't hesitate to pm me or post questions here...we are all here to help!

I think u should take it easy for a few weeks and refocus. that exam is behind u now and all u can do is look ahead. so re-charge your batteries, watch the VMAs or something (South Park does it for me), and get ready to WORK. we'll be waiting here when you're ready 😎

According to my conversion chart provided the good people at Kaplan, that equates to 12/40? Are you serious?

What was this person talking about? What conversion chart? Between the DAT and the MCAT? I have never seen this, any idea where there is one?

thanks... i appreciate the advice... i took off last week but this week it's back to the grind. the problems that give me the most trouble in GC are the conceptual stuff... i've always been good with equations and gc, but my version of the test had about 4 calculation problems and they were pretty easy, but the rest were conceptual questions and like application questions... "if ____ is like _____... then what happens?" that kind of stuff... with QR... ugh i really dont know what happened, i really didn't prepare as much as i should have for that section especially with timing... i knew how to do most of those problems but by the time i was on problem #20 i got that annoying little reminder that i had 15 minutes left and then i got to #30 and somehow i only had 5 min left... it just takes me like 5 min for each problem and obviously you only have 1 lol... i just have to practice practice practice oh well... again though thanks for the support guys, this is a great network 😀😀

Next time around try really understanding the concepts in the biology section and understand how everything fits in the big picture. When you get application questions you should know some what know what the question is asking. I had a problem of just memorizing a lot of stuff and it doesn't really get you to the 21+.

as far as conceptual GC Qs go, i would review Destroyer's conceptual Qs and if u miss them, look up the concept such as vapor pressure vs boiling point on wiki to help clarify the concept. this method really helped me out a lot cuz from my first take, i knew that GC was gonna be more conceptual than calculations. understand why vapor pressure varies inversely with bp, this will also help u understand intermolecular forces, the diff types, and also help u on trends Qs. Don't memorize, once u start putting the puzzle pieces together, u wont have to memorize, u can just logically figure stuff out...when ure faced with Q that u have to wiggle yourself out of by putting concepts together, the biggest things is not to panic...give urself a moment, ull be able to do it in a short amt of time.

as far QR, I would say, practice TopScore's QR section. it is A LOT easier than the real thing, but if u get a hang of their Qs and getting them done fast, i can guarantee at least a 17-18 on the real deal, to get higher, u will have to do kaplan's bazillion practice online Qs (subject tests), cuz theirs are tough and tedious to do but will prepare u well enough (but u gotta devote a lotta time).

I'm not even a dentist, I'm a medical resident, and somehow I ended up on this thread.

Wow. You guys are hardcore. I have never, in 4 years of medical school and being on SDN seen such a mean assed freak publicly bash a fellow traveler.

Hey Marina, you keep on truckin. I, too, struggled with standardized exams and just kept taking them. The tests are only part of it.

I remember my first trip to the dentist; I heard a mean sounding man yelling "You're a coward! Stop being such a baby!"

Later on a kid who looked like he hadn't even started kindegarden walked out in tears with a swollen mouth. He looked like he'd just had his teeth filed by satan.

I bet he was a bully in dental school, just like MrHaaaavard.

i can bet my bottom dollar that HBG has never had a girlfriend, nor has he ever gotten l*id.

The loser doesnt need to he probably replaced women with books, stupid loser that he is. He must have been a nightmare of a classmate in school. Lucky me that i didnt go to Harvard. Imagine 4 years with this jerk.

I think I had the same DAT with you. If so, like you said, Bio was hard. But you did great because I only got 13, that's why I have to retake. The RC is little bit easy eventhough I'm not a good reader, i still got 18 🙂. I got similar score with you except BIO. I retake on this week and I'm so nervous.

One piece of advice i think you should take into consideration is that the Quant section is the very last section on the DAT. That being said, a lot of people do worse on it because they are mentally drained from the rest of the test. My advice would be to do a lot of studying and get slightly tired (mentally) and then do full sections of quant. Personally, this worked wonders for me. When i started studying for quant and taking practice tests, i had 5-6 problems i couldn't even get to. After learning some tricks and making sure i could perform after already hardcore studying a few hours, i managed to irk out a 23. You sound really determined which is already half the battle. Good luck and i'll be looking forward to your next post's title being "rocked the quant".😉

😀 i dont know about rocked the quant but hopefully at least "got a score that isnt embarassing"... that's actually a really good idea... honestly when i got to QR i was exhausted after all that reading and i lost my intensity... i will try your advice... im taking the kaplan course now so they have a lot of workshops i'm going to go balls to the wall

I'm in store for a retake as well, just because of my low QR score. I underestimated this section as I barely studied for it. As for the next time around, I will be doing at least an hour a math a day if not more! 👍

HBG... you are one of the biggest idiots. I have been in the dental field for 16 years and it is people like you that do not make it in the business world. At the end of the day, it does not matter what your DAT score is or was. You really think a patient is going to ask you... "hey doc, what was your DAT score?" They do not even ask where you went to school. It is all about proper diagnosis and case acceptance. With your pompous attitude I wouldn't want you coming near me with a needle and drill. Hey and the kicker is... patients will not care about how great your margins are. I got a lower score than her (Marina) and you can call me an idiot and be embarrassed all you want about being my peer. In the end, we are all DDS/DMD. Have fun in the career. You are in for a treat...

We had the same test. I got a 15 in GC and have no idea how. I thought I did pretty well but I was wrong. The only way I got through the BIO was destroyer. Good luck next time.
