TOPSCORE (TEST SUNDAY)
PAT/BIO/ GC/OC/ QR/ RC/ TS/AA
20 / 18 / 17 / 21 / 19 / 19 / 19 / 19 (MONDAY BEFORE TEST)
22 / 17 / 19 / 20 / 19 / 19 / 19 / 19 (WEDNESDAY BEFORE TEST)
21/ 16 / 17 / 20 / 17 / 19 / 18 / 18 (FRIDAY BEFORE THE TEST)
Sources: Kaplan, Barron's AP, Chad's Videos (gc/oc), DAT Destroyer 2011, Math Destroyer 2011, CDP. I studied for about 6 weeks about 5-10 hours a day, and wasted some days on TV drama or hanging out with friends. Even the week of I wasted three days doing nothing. I was burnt out. No one can study that long and be sane.
PAT: CDP, Top Score. I bought crackdatpat 10 test about a week before the test and used about 3 of the test. I didn't have much time to do all of them. I feel like the DAT was much harder than CDP but maybe it's because I didn't do as many test, but the angles on CDP and the actual DAT are both excruciatingly difficult in my opinion. I feel that keyholes are very basic and you just need practice or be able to visualize it. Cube counting was a lot better on the DAT than CDP though. Hole-punching was difficult on the actual DAT but I found that if you label the holes punched onto the 4x4 square and work backwards and see where it unfolds, it is a lot easier. I think that hole punching helped me a lot. As for pattern folding, I don't know what to say. Anywho, I felt that topscore doesn't prepare you for the PAT section because in those few test, they repeat the same patterns. You would rather practice using CDP because it is more realistic to what you would experience on the actual DAT.
QR: Last year after I came out of the DAT I wanted to kick myself in the butt for not looking through the Math destroyer enough. This time I went through the entire book once and even reviewed it on the day of the test, but when it came to the test, I ran out of time. Some of the questions required a lot of time, which I just didn't have. Math destroyer is sufficient for a few problems, but there will be a few that will get you stuck. I don't know how else to study for this part.
RC: I won't even try to explain this section. I am lucky to not get a 14 again. I am really bad at this section and have yet to find a way to better this section.
BIO : I feel that KBB isn't sufficient to study for this section. It does not give enough details. I found Barron's AP Bio book very useful in details, but when I took the DAT, the first few questions got me jumping in my seat because I have never seen those type of questions or read about those subjects. It is a very broad subject. I was shocked to even see that score. My suggestion for this section is learn all you can, but don't try to cram anything in last minute because you will just forget the older stuff you've learned.
GC: I expected this score to be near my bio score but I did well I suppose, but in the percentile range, with everyone getting 30's, its not too good. Anywho, CHAD'S VIDEO'S is a must!!! I watched it once, I watched it twice, and a third time the day of the test, just fast fowarding it to refresh my memory. It really helped. The gen chem section felt like a breeze, only being stuck on a few questions.I didn't really use anything other than chad's and went over the DAT destroyer once for this.
OC: I actually thought I'd do better in this section vs GC. But I studied this the same way I studied GC but not as much, my scores reflect it. I've always been good in orgo so I figured I'll get a decent score. I actually also looked through my old class notes to remind myself of some reactions.
I am very mediocre. The first time I studied for this test, I used 2 complete full weeks and the next two weeks I studied while going to work full time, my mistake... Cramming does not work, especially for a test like this. You need dedication, time, and effort. When studying, you need to do actual studying. Refresh what you think you already know and focus on your weakness. I didn't really I should even post my breakdown on here because I don't know if it'd be of much help, but since I've been checking SDN religiously these past few days, I figured someone may be in my shoes wondering how others did, just reading through breakdowns, hoping somehow something works for them. I never thought I could get over 19 :x but as I keep saying, when I saw my scores, I was shocked. I was reminded of this one post I saw LOL.
Now here is the big question. I am a Texas resident. I really want to go to any of the three schools in Texas but applications close in less than a week. I am sooooo late. I don't know if I should even apply with these scores. Also, I dont know if I should apply oos or wait for the next cycle because I'm sure if I apply early enough, I may have a chance. I currently have a cGPA 3.5 and sGPA 3.3 . Lots of community service, health related services, shadowing hours and some work experience. Letters of recommendations and personal statements are not very strong.
