Hard to say. You have a great GPA and great EC's - 4 years in the health care industry, and volunteering! I'd say with a 21 AA, you're probably good to go. Just work hard at your personal statement. Take it through drafts and have people review it. Then you'll look more English-y and rounded. 🙂
Oh, you're Canadian. I'm not saying "all bets are off" but I don't know much about Foreign student admissions so maybe a retake would be worth it. Just talk to your counselor, talk to the schools, see what they think. Go Twins! Morneau's the man. 🙂
you have 21AA 21TS and a monstrous GPA.... enough said?
don't even think about a retake, your applying to a decent number of schools. Good luck to ya

However, I read your answer to someone else where you said that they might ask in the interview that why didn't they retake DAT even when they had an year available to do so.
Do you think that problem might arise in my case since I only have a 17 RC? I am a Canadian as well and I don't know how that jeopardizes my chances...
Another question, I called Boston and Tufts today and they said they don't really have cut offs but generally like to see scores around 18....what would you say regarding that?

the person your referring to is dentalprodigy's post.... he had 18/19 and a 15 and a 17.... those are very different scores from what you have.
IMO.....17 in RC is about the lowest reading score that I consider to be "okay" as long as its accompanied by strong AA/TS. Since your canadian (which adds a little more difficulties to your overall process), you have 2 options.... 1) retake and do better on the RC or 2) keep your scores but apply to ALOT of schools (aim at 20-25 that are out-of-state friendly)
Check out this website for info about Howard. It says that minority students are given an advantage.

Incidentally, I found a top ten for canadian pre-dental students looking to apply to US institutions. If you haven't checked it out yet, it looks like it has some good info.

No chance for Howard or Maryland because you are international applicant. Ideally, USC, Tufts, BU and NYU may work in your favor.

But retaking the DAT comes with the chance of scoring lower on other sections...I am dead scared of Bio....PAT is like a game for me and I am not too much worried about that about I am really scared for bio...
Let say I do retake the DAT and end up doing worse, will the schools see both my scores or consider recent ones or better ones..what happens then?

Ya know, im sure you know this, but everything with this whole pre-dental process is based on chance & confidence. Taking the DAT (whether its for the first time or a retake) is a chance, of course, studying hard INCREASES your chance of doing well, but it still boils down to chance. You have to be confident in yourself and not be too worried about "omg what If I do bad/worse"..... If you decide on the retake, be confident that you'll do well 🙂
As far as which set of DAT scores do schools look at, umm every school is different. Some schools only want to see your latest retake, others like to combine them, and others like to see your best performance out of all the retakes. However I think, most schools pay most attention to your most recent retake (they dont care if its your best/worst performance)
Thank you for your reply...I have went to predents and checked out what the stats are for international students...compared to them and considering my GPA, I kinda seem to be in a good shape...I just have to work a bit harder on my application and personal statement I guess to stand out and have them ignore the 17RC...because also have A- in both the English courses in university...
I am already involved on campus and community and will try to be more and get awesome LOR's...

AMAZING SUCH A wonderful sources and soo legit i would completely believe these sources. I mean how can we thank you for such a legit sources...
unbelievable op you gonna believe data from BLOGSPOT.com?............. wth is wrong with you. Get the ADEA book or go to adea website for the first 5 chapters they provide the accurate and REAL + TRUE data.
🙁 Let's take it easy. I wasn't hiding the fact that I was uninformed or that it's a blog, but anyways it's not The Onion. It's got some helpful tips. I wish someone had told me about it before I applied for the first time.
I did, however, check it against peanut's source and it seems that Canadians probabaly shouldn't apply to Temple like the website says since they didn't accept anybody from Canada in 2008-2009. The article was dated April 2008 so it might be based on 2007-2008 stats.
That said, the rest of the info about Canadian applicants is about right and if you want to verify for yourself, the chart for 2008-2009 applicant citizenship is on page 49 of the adea guide that peanut offered up, although, from what I saw, the University of Pennsylvania was a good choice also, despite the website's having omitted it, since they were the #5 biggest acceptor of Canadians in that year behind NYU, BU, Detroit-Mercy and Case, in that order. I don't mention Tufts because they're supposed to be adding 80 some seats to their class in 2011 so they might actually be worth applying to if you're Canadian. But something to keep in mind is that the chart alone might not be the best indicator of where to apply because it doesn't show the average GPA etc. of the Canadian applicants accepted nor how they compare to the pool of American applicants.
