I got good DAT scores this time but this was my fourth attempt. Do I still have a chance?
Bio- 23
GC- 20
OC - 19
PA- 19
QR- 21
RC -21
TS- 21
AA- 21

I would say so. Since the national average for applicants is an 18 and I want to say that the DAT average for most acceptances is 19 point something with between a 3.5 and 3.7 gpa for a majority of the schools. Assuming you have adequate EC's, volunteering, and shadowing.

Thank you MuskieMan33, I'm scared after reading this on tufts university and Detroit mercy website :-

*Please note that the Admissions Committee will only consider scores from the first three DAT attempts.

A 4th attempt does bring up quite a few questions, since the limit is 3 unless encouraged to take it a 4th time by an advisor or professor. Sure, some schools may only look at the first three, but I'm sure that there are some schools that would take a look at a 4th. Do you mind asking me what your previous attempts were and your undergraduate GPA?

My undergraduate gpa ~ 3.3
Masters gpa ~ 3.5
Total science - 3.25

Previous attempts
1st and 2nd attempt - 16 AA, 16 TS
3rd attempt - 19 AA, 21 TS and low RC, QR, PAT score ~ 14
4th attempt ~ most of them 21 and 19 PAT

I would think so. a lot of people are getting accepted with 19's. Your scores show that you can handle the material, but I don't know how individual schools will look at it. Good luck this cycle!!

hey facecrime,

i think that you're set. those are some really good scores. i would make a list of schools that you want to apply to and research the DAT requirements.

also, if you don't mind me asking, what did you do differently to prepare for the PAT? i'm considering a 3rd retake and i need to bring that section up

Crack PAT and achiever PAT is all you need.
My DAT scores are good but idk how schools look at 4th attempt

Unless the school has a limit for the number of times you can take the DAT (i.e. Tufts), you will be fine. Your scores are superb, and your persistence with getting into dental school will definitely be well-received by the adcoms. Congrats and best of luck!

Thank you slyguy2098! I just wanna know what schools don't like 4th DAT attempt before wasting $80 + supplementary fee on those schools.

You can call or e-mail the school and ask about a 4th DAT attempt. I figure that would save you on application fees. However, I have never heard of any rule saying that applicants aren't allowed to take the DAT more than 3 times. I know with SATs though, back when I took them students were allowed only 3 tries.

Yes I'm planning to email them next week. Do you think Ada handbook for dental school should have some sort of info on requirement?
