I just took DATs today.
here is my breakdown:

BIO: 17
GCHEM: 21
OCHEM: 25
PAT: 19
Reading: 17
QR: 21
AA: 20 TS:19

I have 3.42 Overall GPA and 3.32 Science GPA.
I have about 400 hours of dental experience from two different dentists.
3 volunteering experiences.
4 good LORs.
Average Personal Statement.

I am applying to NYU, Temple, Boston, Pittsburgh, etc..
Do I have a chance at NYU?
Do you think i have to retake DATs because of the two 17s?
By the way, I am an international student.

i mean the 17s may be kind of "low" according to ppl on sdn, i really dunno tho.
the only thing that may be pose problems with your two 17's is that your international.

dude you're good to go. Enjoy your self and CHEERS to you

yea..
I am worried about my two 17's.. especially on BIO.
I know i can do this a lot better on my second try.
If I select "retake date" on the DAT score section of the application, would they still review my application and give out interviews using my first DAT score?
or do schools wait to get the second DAT scores even if I am qualified with my first DAT score..?

apply and cross ur fingers. bio and RC are the most important sections so a 17 in each might work against you. but then again you never know!

How were the Bio and RC section?

Bio was hard..
I did cliffs about 4 times..
and I also went through kaplan a little bit..
I never scored higher than 17 on any of the topscore tests..
I heard real DAT is slightly easier than topscore but I don't know about Bio..

and RC was okay but I think i panicED.
I scored 19, 21, 21 on three of the topscores.. but I don't know how I ended up with 17.

My OCHEM scores on topscore were 16, 17, 19. But then.. I got 25 on the real DAT. Ochem is easiest!

Was it a mater of cliff's not covering the info you were tested over?

I think you should apply those 17's are a bit of an eyesore but your TS and AA are pretty good. You should call up some of the schools you plan on applying to and ask for their opinion.

I think its a retake. BIO AND RC are arguably the most important sections on the DAT, and the fact you are an international student ( which is even more competitive) makes it that much more difficult to gain admissions. I would consult the programs you want to apply to on this.

alright. I am planning on retaking it exactly in three months.
But.. I am still going to submit my apps.
So... If I select "retake date" on the DAT score section of the application, would they still review my application and give out interviews using my first DAT score?
or do schools wait to get the second DAT scores for further review even if I am qualified with my first DAT score..?

My experience with the whole "schools using my 1st or 2nd Dat scores for interviews"--at least what I found in my application process

It really depends: Some schools have a policy that reflects the volume of applications they get to the point that it feels like they looked at your application once and didn't necessarily like it at the moment, they put it aside. While other schools take your retake scores very seriously and update your application immediately and consider you with those new scores. A lot of the schools I applied to had a late interview group for people like this.

The bottom line is that if you take the DAT 3 months from now, schools won't even be able to receive an official score from prometric for another 3 weeks on top of that, and add a week on for the school actually updating your application and that's 4 months before your new scores are even attached to your current application. That puts you well into the time frame when they are starting interviews at most schools.

I would count on them using your first DAT scores for interview invites, unless your new scores are superior 22+ AA, TS--then it won't matter anyways cause schools save room for folks like these anyways.

So you are basically saying that.. They would start reviewing with my first DAT scores even though I selected "retake" on DAT section of the application.. correct?
So.. if I am qualified with my first DAT score BEFORE I even take DAT for second time, I would get an interview?

I disagree that a 17 on Bio would sink you (I think TS score is more important), but 17 RC might turn up a red flag. Being an international student + below average GPA (but still a good GPA), I think this is very borderline. I would retake it personally.

Do I have any chance of getting interviews if I bring BIO and RC up to 20 on my second try, which will be some time in late september?

dude what are you doing listening to a bunch of predents. you have a decent score and dont need to retake this cycle just cuz a few internet kids from some random college think its worth so. just apply to a wide variety of schools. just retaking the dat like that isnt easy, i know because i've retaken it

These schools must know that the Bio section is so random as supported by low bio scores. So perhaps they will be more lenient with this section.

What's hurting you is the combo of being a foreigner + low RC score. Schools will sometimes read the personal statement to get a second opinion on a person's verbal ability, however, with international applicants, they always suspect that their essays were written/edited by a native English speaker, which is true in many cases.

I think some people have a point that it would be arduous to study again/wait until September to apply. Maybe applying early with a 20 AA is not a bad idea. Your choice.

I am going to submit (apply) my application tomorrow.
But also going to "select the date of retake" on the DAT score section of the application..

So!!! MY REAL QUESTION HERE IS...

Can I still receive an interview if I am already qualified with my FIRST DAT Score?!?!? BEFORE I EVEN TAKE The DAT AGAIN in SEPTEMBER 28th?

No one has that answer for you. There are various factors involved. Everyone is asking that for themselves even if they do not plan of a retake.

Since you plan on apply anyhow, you should plan on reviewing for the test anyhow if schools suggest a retake.

Your AA/TS/PAT score fall in line with the bulk of enrolled students as a whole. the ADEA however doesn't provide a breakdown of what international students are getting. for the 09/10 entering class there was a total of 251 students who are outside of the US which is roughly 5%.

Agree 👍👍👍👍👍

Call schools to find out.
