It was my first time to take DAT.
My application already submitted to designated school.
okay, lets break down
(total 2 months prepared. but concentrated on only 3 weeks)
Bio; Kaplan BB, Cliff Bio, DAT destroyer
Biology part was so random. I almost memorized stuffs in Kaplan BB, Cliff Bio, Detroyer(almost 400 hundreds problems) but there were so many questions not in the preparing material mentioned above. out of 90min, I used almost 40 minute to solve problem. idk about preparing of this section. I took some upper division science course such as human physiology, genetics and sth but they didn't help me a lot. in real DAT exam, there were no human physiology, immunology, plant, ecology, taxanomy or sth. many problem was related to Cell biology, specific things but except DNA problems. I didnt see any problem in terms of DNA things. there were so many questions about metabolism, enzyme, cell to cell communication, microbiology in colonies etc. I guess aboout 15 problems out of 40. I just crossed my finger at that time. finally, I got 20 on DAT.
GC: Kaplan BB, DAT destroyer
after finishing bio, only 50 minute left, so I solved the problem so fast like light velosity. Many people in SDN forum said there were a lot of principles problems, but in my case, there were only about three principles problems. there were so many calculation problems such as # of moles, using NV=NV etc. because of tons of caculation problems, I used about 35 min. If you did well in destroyer, you can do it well in terms of caculation problem.
OC: Kaplan BB, DAT destroyer, ochem text book
after finishing bio, only 15 min left. I thought I gave up this exam because there was not enough time to solve ochem. HOWEVER, ochem part was so easy to me. I solved 30 questione in 15 min. I did it more fast than light velosity with accuracy. actually, I got B in orgchem 1, and C in orgchem 2 in my college, so I didn't have any confidence to do well in orgchem part. but orgchem in DAT, it was easy. only three problem were reaction related. othere were resonance problem, protonation problem or sth. If you did well in destroyer, you can do it well in real exam.
RC: okay, actually, I didnt prepare it at all. that was my mistake. I just did crack DAT reading only 5 tests or sth before take dat. I got 11/11/15/20/16 on 5 tests. in addition, I am an international student, so it was hard to do reading section in real DAT. search and destroy method you can use. I also did it. but there were 20 paragraphs in one passage. It takes so long time to search all terms in passage. I recommend you read all passage very fast like skim and then use seach and destroyer method. during reading the passage, you have to memorize which passage has which terms. it will be better for searching and destroying after reading.
there are some inference questions about three per passage.
QR: I didnt prepare at all. I just memorize some note in Kaplan BB and I only solved section 1 in math destroyer. especially, section 1 of math destroyer was helpful. it was good choice to do the section 1. there were almost same idea questions in real DAT such as deviation graph sth 68%, 95%, 99% anyway that idea and some probability question. In addition, one convert problem. yard to inch. I am not american, so I am not familiar with inch system. If you have enough time, I recommend you to memorize some convert things.
PAT: I did Kaplan BB, crack PAT 3 test before take DAT. kaplan method was 10/15/5/5/10/15( maybe you guys know what meaning of this). but I didint do that. maybe you guys have a strength section in PAT. in my case, strength sections are 1,2,5,6. so my method was 7/12/8/15/10/8 or sth.( I hate hole punching problems and hard to me to do that !!!!!!1
, so I used 15min to do that !, and angle also.... I think some angle is same !!!
)
anyway, I'm gonna do secondary application for some schools and take a rest little a while because fall semester will start in a month 😡.
I wanna go some private school such as NYU, Western, BU. my cum GPA is 3.47 and Science GPA is 3.44. I know, I am an international student, I have a bad GPA and bad DAT score, but is that a little chance to go to NYU, Western, or BU based on my scores?
I am not sure I will retake DAT or sth because of reading!!!!!!
. anyway I need a rest now and rethink about retake.
Thank you for reading my post. I know, my grammar is so bad anyway
GOOD LUCK ALL APPLICANTS
I wanna see you guys at any dental schools in fall 2011 !!
