Average DAT + below average GPA = slightly below average applicant. You need to apply broadly since your scores won't gain you an interview at many schools.

Does anyone have any suggestions based on my initial questions?

"Do you think I should retake the DAT? Personally, I do believe that I could do better, but in the case that I do worse in the Chems, I feel that that would hurt me significantly more and is a risk not worth taking. Is it also acceptable to call various adcoms to ask them if retaking the DAT (and doing better) would improve my chances?

I plan on applying early when ADEA AADSAS opens. Would my application be on hold even if they have my initial set of DAT scores, but are aware that I plan on taking the DAT sometime later in the summer (around July 1st)?"

Being someone that is in the same position as you, I would personally not retake. I have almost identical scores as you but my TS is 1 point lower and QR is one point higher. Your GPA is decent and your DAT is average for accepted students. I would apply broadly.

Remember, DAT retake is very risky and the reason that people would retake it is because their GPA is low OR they know they did NOT study as much as they should have the first time.

I had very similar scores to you and I gained 7 interviews. It's not all about the DAT scores -- what I mean by that is make sure your personal statement is really interesting and that your extracurriculars are good as well. APPLY EARLY! Have your recommendations and everything in order to submit your application in the very beginning of June. PM me if you have any other questions.

Congratulations on the good scores!
