I really want to thank all of you for all your help, this forum is amazing!!!!!!
I took the DAT yesterday and it was my second time around. I studied for 2 and a half months HARDCORE, using kaplan online course, topscore, achiever and destroyer, wikipedia, and old science books....here are the scores from last year and this year:
-----DAT 1---DAT 2-----
PAT.......22 .....22
QR........15...... 16 (+1)
RC........15...... 14
:cry🙁-1)
Bio........20 ......20
Gchem...17 ......26 !!!!!!!!!😀 (+9)
Ochem...19........20 (+1)🙂
TS........19........21 (+2)🙂
AA........17 .......19 (+2)🙂
Ok so here's the break down:
PAT:
I'm good at PAT and never really studied for it, the only good source I thing was Achiver for hole punching and angles other stuff were too easy for this part, surprisingly the angles were doable this time around, but the key holes were weired, you know how people say none of the choices worked? well for the test I took I was stuck between two choices, and spend like 2 minutes to figure out which one, I had about 4 minutes left so went back to the marked ones but still couldn't figure it out....time yourself do achiever over and over and....
BIO:
bio was very very verrrryyyyy random and a lot of taxonomy and classification, I had a very weired version, one question it gave a shape of a mushroom like thing and ask for parts of it, I had weired genetics questions with scenario, apoptosis, and surprisingly I had no hormones, know ecology I had like 3 questions on it, know transcription steps, and fertilization and embryology details (2 questions, go look for enz activation here online or somewhere in your bio books), photosynthesis, I swear I had like 3 plant questions.....I studied destroyer kaplan and bio books for this and used all the tests I mentioned above, but honestly none of the questions were familiar, it was mostly a scenario given wanting you to chose from one choice, and all answers were conceptual veeeeeerrry conceptual it was like I was taking MCAT...my advice: whenever you're studying plants or metabolism or genetics and embrylogy don't just memorize cuz that won't help you, know what will happen if you disturb a certain step .........
Gchem:
random random random, I'd say study kaplan and achiver because topscore was too easy but still I had a question regarding pH indicator that I couldn't even figure out the question...questions like finding atomic radious and trends on the table.....there was one equation balancing which asked for the number of moles of a certain reactant, I couldn't figure out but I plugged in one of the answer choices for that reactant and thank god it was balanced, so if you can't figure it out use the answer choices. most of questions on this section were very conceptual but not like le chatelier principle, it was asking if you do a certain thing to solution with a certain molarity how would change molality or pressure...I don't know how I got a 26, I'm very very happy about it though because gchem was my weak area first time around and I'm very happy about bringing it up 9 points!!!
Ochem:
this section was not that bad, mostly act/deact directing mechanisms and acid base, since people were saying they were getting specs I really studied for it but I had the 3 specs there were talking about and I had absolutely no clue, so if you see specs that you can't figure out don't waste time...my advice: road maps in destroyer!!!
RC:
English is my second language and I came to the US 6 years ago, and since this section is my weakest point, I was really studying for it, I read MCAT verbals, read 2 articles per day, read every passage that was mentioned on SDN, and still didn't do good. I got the aspirin, cell communication ad piano....while doing RC I thought I had atleast a 17, because I've taken pharmacology and cell comunication UD courses and most of the stuff was familiar to me, so I could find the answers easily, also since I'd read about piano a lot the mechanism of how it works was familiar to me, but the questions were weired...A LOT of tone questions, which does the author most agree with, how would you end this sentence, which word describes this better, etc.....I am so disappointed I don't know what to do, I really focused on RC this time around and not only did I not improve but I did worse, I was speechless looking at the monitor for a couple minutes and just couldn't get up, it was exhausting to see a this score after all the hard work................
QR:
there were about 12 world problems on my test, and none of them were familiar NONE absolutely NONE, nothing!!! no rate no prob no easy equations, a lot of trig function and random geometry with with weired shapes and no values (not even x and Y) asking to find the ratios of area of one to the other, I had a dime and nickel ratio question that I think I got right, maybe 2 inequalities....bottom line, I didn't know how to do most of them, and I ran out of time, i just clicked B B B B B B B B B B B on ones I didn't answer....... just find hard questions and work on timing, do as many problems (different types of problems) as you can...good luck!
Any hope for class of 2009??????????:
This is my second time around, I didn't get accepted last year...
I'm a minority student (English is my second language) and came to US 6 years ago. I graduated as a Human Biology major from UCSD this June and I have ALOT of dental experience, volunteering shadowing working for 3 years in a dental office, X-ray CPR and denture and tooth waxing dental course certified.....my GPA is 3.2 and science is 2.93. I have about 22 bio courses with 19 of them UD.
I submitted my apps in July, have applied to 24 schools: USC, UCLA, LLU, UCSF, UOP, Western, ASDOH, Midwestern, Howard, Meharry, Creighton, NYU, Buffalo, VCU, Boston, Nova, temple, Case, Louisville, Tufts, Maryland, Marquette, Detroit Mercy.
Please let me know what you think, I want to get in somewhere, anywhere, what do you think my chances are???????????? any feedback will be appreciated...Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!
