I think you are fine. Your GPA is excellent and will probably offset the 17 you got in RC. Good job, you don't have anything to worry about.

i just feel like because i got an 18 AA it will hurt me a lot. i have a really good app, great extras and volunteers etc.. good letters and all, but i am just unsure about the dat 🙁

I did worse on the DAT and still got accepted. Plus I had a lower GPA. I would say you will be fine. All of your scores are pretty good.

Best of luck!

Of course, it's just an opinion..but I think that you have a shot at TUFTS, NYU, etc. Since you didn't mess up any section really bad, I think it's really up in the air what will happen. You know? it's not like you did poorly..but you did not do amazing in any one area. BUT you should be happy and relax. Unless you have time for a retake..then maybe you should.

how about a breakdown of the sciences? were there a lot of calculations in gchem? What was your strategy for QR?

QR: tell ya the truth i didnt study one bit... i just knew i was able to get around a 19 without doing anything

RC: also, didint practice at all... 3 ok passages...

Gchem: some confusin Q's , all calcs were VERY simple and not more than 2 step based...

Ochen: cuz some of the q's on gchem got me held up.. i took too long on gchem. on all pracs i got about a 23+ on ochem and i really messed up in the actual cuz i was rushing.... i messed up all my sciences cuz i was rushing, which i usually don't do... i dunno why i did it.

Bio: destroyer, do all the Q's twice and make sure u know them inside and out.... thats about all i can say cuz they r random

any more opinions about my scores?

Your GPA is well above average, your DAT is below average, your undergrad is pretty respectable. If you retook and got a 20AA and 20TS you would probably get an interview at every school you apply to. As it stands right now you would probably get interviews at half the schools you apply to, this pure conjecture though as I am not an ADCOM.

Even if you retook and got yourself a 19, that would be a huge improvement to your application considering the fact that your GPA is so high.

is there some kind of ratio between DAT and GPA?
for example, 4.0GPA with 18 DAT is equivalent to 3.9GPA with 19DAT...etc?

are you a nys resident? if so, i think you're in good shape

yeah, im a nys resident...
i was feeling the same way about getting interviews for about half... thanks for the advice guys

Different schools weigh GPA and DAT scores differently.

I must say, even if there was this ratio, it would not be .1 GPA point per DAT point.

3.7 with a 21 DAT would be a much stronger applicant than a 4.0 and an 18 DAT.

As for the retake, if you are applying to many schools, I am sure you will get in somewhere. Will it be your first choice schools? Maybe not.

Not sure if there's a specific ratio, but last year I spoke with one of the members of the admission committee at the UCLA School of Dentistry, and he told me that they have some kind of a formula, where they plug in your GPA and DAT score and generate an overall score. That score is really what the admission committee looks at in order to invite you for an interview. I'm not sure whether or not other schools follow the same procedure though!

thats pretty crazy, do you know how how they are weighted or its probably different for every school huh

I asked him if he could tell me the details of the formula the use and how they're weighted, but he refused to say anything about it. I'm pretty sure different schools have different ways of doing this!
