I have been reading this forum for months and I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I want to get into the Medical College of Georgia, a state school. I have a 3.73 cumulative GPA but I have a 3.96 science GPA. I have also done a full year of both physics and organic chem research. With these scores, what do you think my chances are? The average AA/TS/PAT for MCG is a 19/19/19.
Bio - 18
GC - 23
OC - 23
PAT - 23
RC - 23
QR - 16
TS - 21
AA - 20
First of all, just let me inform all of those reading this that Kaplan Bio is not nearly enough. I got some pretty in depth genetics and signal transduction questions that were actually similar to the DAT achiever. All and all, the biology was much harder than I thought it was going to be. Even though it is random, it was pretty intense and I am even a biology major. There were not alot of factual questions on this section, there were more conceptual questions and experiments. (glycoproteins?). I would say that the bio portion I got was very similar to the DAT achiever.
The gen chem and organic were very easy but some of the questions were arguable. Really, I feel like if you go too in depth with these subjects it will hurt you. (watch out for chromatography)
The PAT was harder than Kaplan but it was still incredibly easy. It was almost identical to Crack DAT. The angles weren't that bad and the keyholes were much easier than I thought. You will have plenty of time to finish this section if you can complete Crack DAT in time. DAT achiever is garbage in this area!
The reading comprehension was very easy. This was the highest I ever scored. All passages were very straightforward, I used the mapping strategy.
Now to the big dog!! QR was much more difficult than any of the other practice tests I have taken. Almost completely word problems and the algebra problems were actually quite time consuming. My advice is to not get burnt out before this section and just go as fast as you can.
All and all, I really thought that I was going to do much better, but what can you do.
Here are some of my previous scores on other tests so you can kinda see how the real test compares: (These might not be exact b/c I am going from memory)
Kaplan: Bio/GC/OC/PAT/RC/QR/AA
Diag 18 19 21 19 16 15 18
Mid 29 21 30 25 21 21 24
Fin 29 23 30 26 21 26 26
Topscore: Bio/GC/OC/PAT/RC/QR/AA
T1 18 19 24 25 20 18 19
T2 19 21 23 26 21 21 20
T3 19 23 30 24 23 21 23
Acheiver: Bio/GC/OC/PAT/RC/QR/AA
T1 18 18 19 19 20 20 19
T2 19 19 19 21 18 20 19

I studied for about 2 months for about 6-10 hours a day. I would venture to say that this is too much time to study. I could have learned the g chem and o chem on the DAT in about a week. The biology that was on the beast of a section that I got I wouldn't have been able to learn in two years! Just be sure not to just memorize the biology section because half of the questions are truly conceptual, and despite what the ADA says, it does not only test biology 1 and 2. Don't stress about the reading and just be very prepared for the math. But otherwise, don't worry too much because it is truly not that bad.
Any input into my chances of getting into dental school would be great. I would also be happy to answer any questions about the DAT. Just wanted to say thanks for all of the suggestions and I hope you all do well on the DAT.
