This was my 2nd time taking the DAT and i did a lot better 😀
here are my scores

PAT:25 😀
QR:16 (oops)
RC: 23
BIO:20
GC:19
OC:20

TS:20
AA:20

The first time around i did horrible in sciences. i based my studying around kaplan's review book(which i do not recommend). this time i borrowed my brother's MCAT princeton review book for gchem and bio. i thought they were awesome. of course it doesnt have any plant stuff in it but i just supplemented that with the kaplan review book. the princeton review books were short but in depth and really easy to understand. i felt like the kaplan review book was too general - didnt cover any specifics (if it did i felt like they were specifics you didn't need to know) i also used topscore pro for practice tests both times. my scores on topscore were of course a higher or the same (except for my PAT) topscore was a good simulation of the test setup but a little easier sciences. for RC like everyone says there were a few tone or "what did the author mean by..." type of questions per passage which topscore has none of. i didn't do much preparation for the RC and QR. i just took the practice tests in topscore. i probably should have practiced QR a little more, seeing as i got a 16 (10.9%) T.T horrible. i ran out of time with like 4 questions left so i had to guess. hopefully this wont hurt me too bad
for PAT i really just did 2 of the topscore practice tests. i actually scored lower on the topscore (20,23) than on the actual DAT. who knows, im not complaining. they seemed about the same difficulty level to me...

so what do u guys think my chances are for getting in SOMEWHERE? biggest problem is that my gpa is not so good 🙁
sci gpa: 2.9
overall: 3.1

i should probably add that i studied for about 2 and a half months before the test. about 4 hours ~5 days a week the first month and a half and then as much as i could, everyday (ranging from 6-7hrs) the 2nd month. I started taking my topscore practice tests 2 weeks before my exam date. I know everyone has said that you shouldn't wait till the end to take your practice tests, but this was my second time around, so i knew what the tests were like. The last 3-4 days before my test i basically just reviewed all my notes/flash cards. it was definitely not easy to study so much everyday during the summer(for the 2nd summer in a row), but it all paid off! 😀

i am entirely basing my Gen Chem studying off Kaplan. Did you see a lot of info covered on Gen Chem uncovered by Kaplan? I have exam crackers chem but ahve just not been interested in reading it....

Good scores though man. Congrats on being done. Seems like everyone is getting stomped by QR.... !!

Those are beautiful scores! But, I'm not sure about that GPA.... I'm thinking most schools want to see a GPA around 3.5. Maybe you could take some graduate level classes to show that you have the capability of making good grades in difficult classes.

i mean, kaplan's review covers basically everything, just not to the extent that i needed. i guess maybe i should have clarified that. when i just studied the kaplan review book, it was hard for me to understand a lot of the concepts covered. But if you can understand all the concepts fine then you shouldn't worry about it. I just liked the way the princeton MCAT review book presented the concepts a LOT better. it's a lot more concise and to the point IMO.

and thanks!

That makes sense. I see what you mean. Maybe if you have an upward trend in your GPA?

Liek for my my cum is somewhere aroudn yours ... but after freshman year I never got anything lower than a 3.5 and got A's in bio and Orgo. I'm hoping that sticks out to the schools when I apply next cycle. Cuz my GPA ain't so hot either!!! I hope I can pull of scores like yours to compensate 🙂

congrats on such awesome science scores!! May I ask what you got the first time on your 3 sciences? I'm really and nervous about the science part and my exam is in 5 days.... eeeekk!:scared:

seriously,

SDNers cant be this bad at QR

i havent seen a single +20 QR

kinda worried cause my dad said he will disown me 😛 if i dont score +25 on QR haha (he is a mathematics prof)

So Topscore is about the same...why did you go up so much from your first Topscore test to your last? Is it because Topscore had similar questions that appeared in each test or???

I really don't know. I felt like the 3rd topscore test was a lot easier (in the science sections since I can't really compare the other sections). The time span between my first test and my 3rd was about a week. Maybe it was more studying? I really just feel liek it was a lot easier, but I don't think it had a lot of repeated questions from topscore's test 1 and 2. I did purchase topscore last summer and I took all 3 full tests. I'm not sure how much this would affect my scores though. Some of the questions were the same as last years but I'm not sure how many since I can only base that off of what I remember because, of course...the software expired 👎 hahaha

Well, I took the Kaplan course and I thought it prepared me very well for the chemistry and organic chemistry sections. Biology as well. I based most of my study on reading the entire review book and the online stuff, and also reaing some of my chemistry text book. Don't let these forums scare you, I know many who took Kaplan who ended up with good results.

The QR section is totally ridiculous. The questions are not like questions you see in college math classes and it should be about 10 questions less with the time they give you. Not to mention it comes at the very end of a long draining test.

I managed a 20+ in QR... just an FYI.

Oh and to the OP... good scores!! now just nail your interviews and you'll be in!

Just say that test is for future dentists ONLY and not math geeks lol
