Finished the DAT today.... thanks everyone in the forum who would answer my ridiculous questions!!
Was so nervous I didn't eat anything before the test... but somehow wasn't hungry the entire time...
Listened to Like a Cholo and Pop Bottles on the way there....

Scores were what I expected / lower / higher... dunno... overall satisfied, not sure if I should retake though...

Bio 20
Chem 18
Orgo 22
QR 18
RC 24
PAT 20

AA 20
TS 20

GPA 3.2 with another year left... but nothing below a 3.5 in my soph and junior years... (freshman year was interesting... 🙂)

Do you guys think I need a retake? I'm DONE!!

PS: I am from Ohio....would like to go to OSU, Case (i dunno they have high GPA req), AT Still...
anyone know schools I should apply to with these types of scores and GPA? And if I need to retake?

Will do a breakdown tomorrow morning.... Hitting the bars right now!!!

Wow, finally u're done. I'm taking mine next week...Frankly, I was expecting you to get above 24..how were ur practice test compare to real one? what was ur strategy for RC.I have ur GPA and need to do well. G luck to u

I am taking my test this Thursday and am really worried about RC. Were the DAT RC questions pretty close to the topscore ones, like almost straight from the passage and maybe a few tone questions? Will I be able to use my search and destroy without worrying too much?

And how were the angle rankings? Were they as ridiculously close to eachother as CDP, like 3 degrees difference? or are there only a few like that....hope so?

Hey guys! Here is my follow-up! I just woke up. 😀

I know I posted my exam scores somewhere--the reason I don't have them is my old windows computer's hard drive fried about 5 days ago.
I wil find it and add it though.

Beginning of the test I was so nervous I had to re-read Q's like three times. By the time I got to orgo, I was fine. so i went back and fixed bio answers, and didn't get to Gchem to fix answers. Moral of the story, don't panic because I maybe would have done better in Gchem had I not been sooo nervous! After the break I was feeling confident and great after not having gotten FRAP or anything ridiculous...for PAT RC and Math I was feeling good.

Bio: I thought I was still taking the tutorial for the first 5 Q's They were just really easy! I came across about 10-12 that I had to narrow down answers and there were 'two' answers you had to pick the one that answered the Q best. I guess I must have gotten a few right and the rest wrong. Overall, it was NOT bad.

Gchem: Oh god, I felt clueless the entire exam. I either knew it or I didn't, I guess I knew enough to get by. Was so nervous everytime I couldn't figure something out I think it hurt me. But everything we have been going over in forums is a good representatin.

Organic: Surprisingly straight forward.... i had NO NMR or IR... which was amazing! I heard others had gotten ridiculous IR and NMR. Again, about 10 I had to narrow down because there seeeeeemed to be two answers... I guess I did better here than Bio. But I have always been better at Orgo. I thought I was going to pull a 24 in this section when I had finished. Too bad.

PAT: Not bad at all. Some q's seemed like they had no answer. I could have sworn I was right. Keyhole, similar to Kaplan. TFE, some you could use the counting lines, most you couldn't. Angles, some were easy, some were ridiculous-- but for some reason I think I was able to see mos of them. Cubes really easy, messed me up that they were on the right side o the page, not hte left. I don't know why it did, but it was wierd. Hah. And finally, folding patterns, was not bad at all. I think keyhole and folding is where I got wrong answers.

RC: Not bad. Finished with about 1 minute left. But I really took my time and double checked answers as I went through. Didn't want to make any mistakes. I got lucky and had no tone Q's at all. All just look for the answer and then answer the question. Most were straight forward, I though at least. I had practiced RC a lot before going into it after having heard people bombing the section. I made a road map before I began answering Q's. Went through, skimmed each paragraph, wrote down key words, and then answered Q's. It sped up my test taking a lot, and allowed for me to check answers with time left. I found most of the questions actually did show up around the key words I wrote, so I would just refer to my page, see where i twas, and go straight to that paragraph. Instead of scrolling and wasting time. Works for some, not for others. Worked for me!

QR: Exactly how everyone says. Rushed for time, harder than you think. I knew most of the answers, but just really had little time. I had 19 minutes with 20 Q's to go, and just skipped ones that would have taken too long. Basically, know your stuff, and practice speed. I practiced problems but not speed. That is what got me. I seriously thought I was going to get a 14 in this section before I saw my score. I did a little dance when I saw my score before I realized there were cameras watching me...god it sucked!

So there it is...
I only used Kaplan and AP Cliffs. I did not buy destroyer, and I do think that it would have been overkill for my version of the exam. There was nothing too complex, and nothing that was not covered by either of those.
I studied for 3 months. Well.... I went on vacation for 2 weeks of those 3 months... and then went out every weekend for about 1.5 of those months, and also took another weekend off to go down to Ohio State and hang out with friends. And my 21st birthday was somewhere in there.
So... I would say, I actually really studied for about 1.5 months. First part, 6-8 hours a day, closer to 6. Last 1 1/2 weeks at least 12 hours a day. I studied the night before, took a practice test, and did horrid on it, and got freaked out. I even reviewed the morning before. Noting I went over that night before or next morning was on my test. OH well.

wish I would have scored 1 more in gchem or any other seciton to boost me to a 21 AA, but oh well.
There ya go, let me know if you guys need anything else 😀

I do have one question, is it worth it to start an application right now, and get things submitted? Is there someone I can talk to about my chances in applying this late?
Anyone know what schools are likely to accept low GPA and decent DAT? My GPA is low, but my GPA from soph and junior year are pretty good.
I was going to try out a few schools just incase I got lucky. Boston, Temple, Ohio State, Case, WVU, UPitt, UoP. What do you think/ I contacted my advisor, she said she doesn't know much aboubt D-school. BIG HELP! HHAH. So any help would be appreciated.

Again, fi you guys need anything else let me know!

Congratulations! I knew you would do well based on the questions you would ask. It was obvious you were attempting to cover all bases. Great job! 👍

@ doc and polarmolar...how bout we form a prayer group😀

If you used Kaplan's chem subject tests, how would you compare them?

Oh yes indeed......no tone??!!......start prayer folks!!!!

If you used Kaplan's chem subject tests, how would you compare them?

Kaplan Subject tests for chem were a lil ahrder- but the info is necessary to know.
ihad zero actual calc on my test-- just set up the problem.

kaplan bio was good--- they focus too much on hormones, but the taxonomy is good.

kaplan PAT ithought was decent practice if you do all fo it... the pattern folding in kaplan is harder.. the rest is on par o ra lil easier. baically good for practice.

kaplan orgo was great. good indicator. i got lucky with no NMR or IR so i can't vouch for taht but otherwise it was good.

kaplan RC i didnt really do it so id ont know...

kaplan math--- about right. do it all for sure. know how to do it all. TRIG , probabilities, everything. WORK ON SPEED! Like everyone else says > I kew 90% of hte probs just didn't have time. Skipped the last 5 and gusssed wisely. I guess I got lucky witha n 18.

good luck =)
don't listen toeveryone that says kaplan sucks. I only used it.. and no destroyer. Obv I didn't do as good as other SDN members... but I am also a terrible test taker... so I am pretty happy with these scores.

This makes me feel better🙂 So Kaplan Orgo was fine? Do you think I should focus on the basis/most important or do I need to know all of the reactions they cover for every functional group??

I mean I thought it was fine. I would know everything.... just because it wasn't on my test doesn't mean it won't be on yours..... I didn't have NMR and IR....

Congrats man! Great scores! i'm glad to see all of your hard work and studying paid off 😀 i have a quick question for you. How was AP cliffs for bio? i recently bought schaum's but after glancing through it, i can see why people complain that it is too dense. do you feel that ap cliffs provided you with the proper foundation? thanks and congrats again!

nice job , scores look good! I wish I had your RC, mine was filled with tone and T/F questions😱

Like I said, I used AP Cliffs and Kaplan and was satisfied with that prep

congrads man thats a very solid 20 you had no real weak areas.....I think your in solid shape if the rest of your app looks good, a 20 will get you into most schools =)

Def apply if you want study more and retake in 3 months and just update your scores if needed, but I think you have a legit shot right now

I dont get what's so hard about IR's and NMR's.. they are so easy.. especially the ones on the DAT.

I don't think the few spectroscopy questions on YOUR DAT represent the entirety of IR and NMR questions you could possibly get. I had 3, one was easy, the other two seemed much more complicated. Everybody is different in their ability to interpret spectroscopy graphs, especially NMR.
