hey guys, im relatively quiet on this forum, ive posted a few questions on here and hardly nobody replied to my posts so i doubt many of you know who i am, but i finished my DAT friday the 3rd. this is the first time ive taken it and my scores are below:

biology- 18
chem-17
ochem-17
PAT-22
reading comp- 18
quantitative reasoning-18
overall- 18

bio- fairly easy, easier than what i was expecting. i used kbb and reviewed the barrons dat review(filled with errors). they dont go too indepth with the questions, very straight forward and not specific
chem- i used chad, strongly recomend
ochem- chad, use it. i thought that these sections were easy, except that i got a few lab techniques questions and was pretty unprepared for them.
reading comp- no piano, readings were very interesting and NOT similar to crack dat reading at all- crack dat asks more overall questions about what the authors opinion is and crap and that is not how the real dat was
PAT- oh my gosh so much easier on the real DAT then crack dat. i started out making 19's and 20's on crack dat and up to the day before i was scoring 26's. i was expecting to do a little bit better in this section than a 22, but im not complaining. BUY ALL 10 tests and you will be fine. Ive heard that you are either good at this stuff or not good, im not sure of the validity of this statement but i think practice definitely helps improve your scores
MATH- i was starting to really panic in this section because i was going through and doing the ones that were easier first and i spent like 3 minutes on 2 problems and hadnt gotten the right answers, so i probably straight up guessed on 8-10 of them and put C. but the quality isnt bad, the quantity is the hardest part. i am a pretty math savvy person and i prolly should have done better on this section but im not too concerned

*overall view- i think that my scores are all very well rounded and i am not going to retake it, im planning on applying this cycle, i just started my junior year, and i have a 3.8 gpa. i hope to attend WVU dental school just like my undergrad.
-what do you all think of my chances on getting in with these stats as an early applicant?
- oh and on a side note, i think its bogus that they dont include your PAT in your overall average lol

GO EERS!!!

Cool! I just started my junior year too!! Good Job on taking the DAT early!! Anyway, your scores aren't too bad, but i'm not sure about the 17s in chem and ochem, it's possible that the 22 in PAT will offset the low scores but that still means u need to strengthen ur application with lots of shadowing and volunteering.

What is ur science GPA by the way?

Yea I agree with you the 17's aren't the greatest...but I think they aren't worth retaking. And yes you are right shadowing and volunteering is def an app builder. My father is a general practitioner. I think I have about 80 shadowing hours from a general practitioner, orthodontist, and endodontist. I've been really tryin to work on volunteer hrs as well

If you want the brutal truth, adcoms may question why you have a 3.8 and an 18 DAT. Because you are only going into your junior year, I would highly suggest that you retake. Apply early in june, and plan to take your new DAT a month or so after. You are somewhat competitive as your GPA is great, but your DAT score may hold you back a bit. It's up to you- but I think retaking and trying your absolute hardest next time around will give you a competitive edge, in that it will allow you to choose the school that you want to go to, rather than sit and hope that one chooses you.

I postponed my test for a whole summer because I knew I could improve if I took a few more bio classes. Maybe you should reconsider.Unfortunately I applied late- but that was a mistake on my part.
