I honestly like to know if anyone has gotten into dental school with this low of a DAT score. It wont be possible for me to retake until next year, am I going to just have to get ready to reapply? Do you guys know of anyone that has gotten in with these scores?

I have a 3.69 GPA (4.0 for the last 2 years) and a 3.51 science GPA tons of dental shadowing, pre-dental experience classes, scientific research and also a lot of volunteering.

Lowest I have personally heard was a 17, but that person was working as a Dental hygenist for a long time before they applied. You might want to save your money not apply this year and then reapply next year.

I am thinking about just apply anyways becasue on AADSAS they ask if you have applied to schools before. It must help you to say "yes, I am past applicant" because why would they ask that questions if it wasn't important?

retake. your ts is a 15 and your AA is only a 16. im no adcom but i dont think these scores are being accepted nowadays!

most schools have their cutoffs at 17 ... with that being said, you definitely need to retake it.

This is the only chance you have of getting in with these scores: if you live in puerto rico.

This is entirely wrong AADSAS has this option for re-applicants where they can state what they have done in their reapplication period. You are no better than a student whose a first time applicant. Study again like NguyenDDS and try to shoot for a higher DAT. I would not apply with this score.

It was not easy for me at all to post these score here. There are many amazing people on here that post great scores!

Thank you for the advice and info! Retake it is!!!

I wanna say odds are low... but even thats a stretch. IMO, you won't get in with those scores. TS 15 is the kinda score people would get if they never reviewed, just finished pre-dent courses and took the DAT.

It shows lack of motivation and worst of all, it discredits your strong GPA

How long did you prepare for the DAT? Your GPA is great but your DAT is low for that kind of a GPA

I have been horrible at standardized tests. In high school I got a 21 on my ACT but a 3.78 GPA.... I am not good at taking timed tests. I did not complete a single section on the DAT in time (had to guess at the end) I studied for 2 weeks for the DAT

agreed... I know some people that took the same classes as me and I out scored or equaled them in many class, however they did amazing on the DAT and got into dental school, I highly doubt dental school is coming my way

I know people that have gotten in that have excelled in the classroom and did bad on the DAT...your GPA is pretty strong. I would say retake the DAT and aim for 18 or 19....If you can manage that type of score I would say you would have a decent shot.

This may be the reason why you scored low. I, too, only studied the DAT for 2.5 weeks and need to retake the DAT. Study for AT LEAST 1 month, take off of work if you need to (something I am going to do). Good luck on your retake! 🙂

Yes, studying for two weeks is not smart. If you are bad at test taking (An excuse) you should put in extra time to make up for it, right?

I wouldn't call being bad at standardized tests an excuse. I know people from high school who were much smarter than me that just couldn't adjust to standardized test formats, and I know a fellow pre-dent guy at my university who prepared very well, has a 3.7 GPA, and still didn't do as well as he would have liked. Standardized tests are an awful system, but I'm not sure there is a better way to evaluate students.

All that said, 2 weeks is probably not adequate. Unless you put in crazy hours every day and retain things extremely well. I'd say 3-4 weeks is the minimum I would recommend. Ideally, probably about 6 or 8 weeks

When your entire future is sitting on the performance of 1 test... believe me, the anxiety alone is enough to make you feel like your not prepared ~ hence feel like you can't deal with standardized tests.

Im about to generalize......People being "bad" at standardized test is like saying "I am a better learner visually"... .guess what, EVERYONES bad at standardized tests just like EVERYONE is a better visual learner lol. That was the design of the system: to create a stressful environment for the applicant (comprehensive standardized test) and see how he/she handles it, so, it is by design that everyone should feel the pressure of these tests.

Im willing to bet, majority (if not all) of pre-dents had major butter-flys as their DAT date approached, and felt like they were gonna bomb it.

This is exactly what I meant by "an excuse". Everyone learns differently so efficient studying is key.
