so i took my DAT this morning. It wasnt bad. But i f@#ked up on PAT. Feel pretty s%$^$tty about that. Heres my score.

BIO:22
GCHEM:26
OCHEM:22
RC:22
QR:29
PAT:17😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡
TS:23
AA:24 99.5% 😍

The thing about PAT is that I was getting 17 or above on DAT achiever and 22+ on topscore. but i choked i F$#ucked up... anyways

Overview with no specific questions

BIO: was alright. one ecology, one plant, few about cell differentiation, no sea urchin. my best advice is study broadly, but not in detail.

GCHEM: was also alright. one about titration. nothing new that i have never faced before. oh i had a question on lab equipment. thats prolly the only new thing but still was very easy question. if u took chem labs u would know it.

OCHEM:really easy, thought i got everything but i guess not. only had like 2 questions about RXN. one nmr.

RC: EZ finished 10 min early. i usually run out of time on achiever and topscore. mine was on Magnesium(alright), cell communcation(easy), herbal(super easy). thought i got everything right but i guess i overestimate myself

QR: I have a strong background in math. LOTS of word problems. i swear i was getting word problems one after another. maybe 4 probabilities. 3 were ez. 1 was super hard(this is the one i prolly got wrong).

PAT: keyholes were EZ. all the correct choices had right size and scale. Got raped on TFE. for some reason, i forgot all my tricks about all the line stuff when i was taking the real test. i have a feeling that i got almost every single tfe wrong. 😡 angles were hard but not impossible. punching stuff was EZ. Cube counting is as ez as it sounds. Pattern folding was EZ. Bad time management and choking got me a 17. enough said.

the dat version i took was overall ez. if i can take the pat part again. i know i would do much better. but too late now. im trying to get into any west coast schools cuz thats where me and my gf lives.

I am a chemical engineer at ucla and gpa is around 3.3. u think i have a chance with a 17 on pat?

also SDN helped me alot, without SDN members, i wouldnt have gotten decent score on the DAT. so thanks everyone. ill be here for a while to help people out. if u got questions let me know.

Your scores are awesome! congratulations, another one done. Your PAT should be fine. Predents.com says the Average PAT of acceptance is around 18 and your just one below that. Remember average consists of numbers below it as well and with your score it shouldnt be a problem. Relax!

You're fine. Engineer majors consitently have the highest success of any major applying to dental school (last year it was 66%) to the next highest major of Business (55%). Eleven percent higher than the second highest group, and about seventeen perecent higher than the mean, certainly says something about the desirability of engineering students to dental schools.

I will not go into detail, as the non-engineering students simply will not understand, but we both know how much more difficult an engineering undergrad is to the other majors. These bio and chemistry courses (the "difficult" science courses) I took as pre-requisites for dental school are a joke compared to the engineering courses I took.

Conversely, studying for the DAT was difficult, as there was very little thinking involved. Memorizing details and the occasional (minor) application of a chemistry concept does not test one's intelligence, merely one's effort.

As an engineering major you're fine. I'll leave it up to you to figure out how to differentiate yourself from the other applicants, but know that many schools recognize that engineering students make excellent dentists. Good luck.

17 on the pat here too.
and i got a lower ts/aa.

you'll be fine. don't sweat it.
