Hey fellow SDNers! I just took the DAT on 8/28/08 and am really happy with my scores! I think it was thanks to a lot of the questions and info posted on these boards. I know I didn't post much but I perused the forums daily and each bit of information I picked up helped me on the test.

The Scores:

PA: 21
QR: 19
RC: 22
BIO: 24 (98.4%)
GC: 25
OC: 24
TS: 25 (99.5%) 😱
AA: 23

Overall: 23/25/21

I am sooo happy with my scores and never even hoped to score that well. I studied from June 1st - August 27th. I took the Kaplan class (somewhat usefull) not going to get you a really good score though too lacking. The most useful part of the entire class was their online resources. I took their practice tests and that helped me with timing. Also math was my weakest area (because of timing) and their online stuff helped me with that. I did the DAT Destroyer Questions once, again pretty useful, nothing amazing like many people on this forum want you to believe. AP Cliffs and Schaums looked over them both, didn't read either. Just looked at anything I didn't think I knew. The last few weeks I just looked over flashcards I made of stuff I had gotten wrong. Anything I got wrong throughout my studying I made a flashcard for and went over it so I wouldn't get it wrong again. I studied probably 2-3 hours a day, more on weekends.

So this is my breakdown. If you have any questions let me know.

To Note: I am a junior this year and will be applying next cycle, not this cycle. If anyone has gotten into the U of MN Dental School early admissions process I would love to hear from you. Not sure exactly how it works.

Thanks again SDN!!

P.S. If anyone wants to buy DAT Destroyer I'd like to get it off my hands. I bought it new about a month ago and went through it once but didn't mark any of the pages. I did my work in a notebook so it's basically knew. I paid $150 new. Willing to sell for $120 including shipping. Let me know.

Great job, but what did you do for the three months? You said you only skimmed Cliffs and Shaums and did Kaplan online...how many hours a day?

A few hours a day probably like 6-7 on weekends. Kaplan Online took a while since I work full-time in a lab at my University so I didn't stay completely caught up with the class but by the time I tooke the DAT I had done all their workshops and subject tests except for math. I just couldn't bring myself to do their math subject test!!! And guess what, math was my weakest score on the DAT. I bought Topscore the last week before my DAT and did one full length and then just the natural science section for the second two tests. I also had flashcards from when I took orgo they were printed from my schools bookstore I went over for Ochem rxns and Destroyer Road Maps. I studied about 3 or so hours a day but that was while watching TV or talking to someone so it wasn't super concentrated. It took me much longer to do things than it could have. That might have helped me go over the material more. I also looked through Cambell's and read their plant stuff cause I knew NOTHING about plants before the DAT. This helped cause I did get 2 questions about plants on my DAT. I also read all about embryology online because my other sources were lacking on the Subject.

I can say.. Destroyer is definitely overkill for the GCHEM. Make sure you can do easy calculations and know all the trends and conceptual info and you should be able to easily get a 20 on that section. Bio was random, I guessed at a few, I must have guessed right? or they didn't count and were test questions I"m not sure. PAT seemed about the same as Kaplan besides angles and holepunching. Holepunching was much harder on the real DAT. I averaged about 22-23 on Kaplans PAT and got a 21 on the real DAT. So if you want a 20+ on PAT you should be killing Kaplan's stuff or get CDP. I"ve heard its good. No personal experience with it though.

how did you study for G-chemistry??? I have one week to take my exam and I know my weakness is G-chem.. please help............

I went through DAT Destroyer.. which is mostly calculation problems. The real DAT not so much. I also did the Kaplan Online Subject Tests. Those were pretty helpful.

Take some practice tests and if your doing good on GCHEM you should do good on the real DAT. If you get a question wrong go back figure it out and rework it. I think that is the most important thing I did throughout my preparation. Figuring out where I went wrong and then doing the problem again. Making sure I won't make the same mistake again.

Good Luck!

You should make a profile on predents and connect it up
