Hi, I'm taking my DAT at the end of July and I was wondering what exactly to expect. Now, don't misunderstand this post as newbie asking about the DAT. It is only recently that I've
questioned how accurate my test preparation materials are to
the real DAT. Kaplan apparently overdoes the chem, ochem while underdoing the PAT and the bio. In fact, I hear the bio asks things that no sane human being would (should?) know. I've read the posts on this forum and pieced together those conclusions. Is there any specific material that actually gave a decent prediction on the DAT? I've been using Kaplan this whole time and hope it's adequate. Thanks for everyone's help!!!

The Kaplan book is 100% adequate. It, along with the TopScore CD, are all you need to get an exceptional score.

If you memorize the Kaplan book you will do VERY well.

The bio section will have a couple questions that will be difficult, but don't worry about them. Remember, the DAT tests questions for future exams, so maybe those hard ones don't even count!

Having said all that, there are certainly different study methods that work for different people, but I would base the bulk of your study around the Kaplan book.

Hii,

I'm planning on writing the Canadian DAT, and planning on using the red kaplan book..would this book be sufficient enough to obtain a very good score for the canadian DAT??

btw--- is there a major difference between the canadian DAT and the American one..?? I know that i would have to carve soap for the canadian DAT.. but does anyone know of any other differences??

Thanks so much for any input..

This information seems good. I've based my entire studying around the Kaplan materials but have recently aquired new stuff to look at (T-minus 2 weeks!!). Hopefully topscore will arrive this week and I can get cracking. ? think I've probably reviewed every major source of DAT preparation to some extent (including things that I haven't seen mentioned on these forums) and after it's over I'll post as best I can how it went and what would have gone better. Thanks!

I think Kaplan book is the end-all, be-all of DAT study materials. But remember to do A LOT of questions in O-chem, Chem and math. Practice, practice, practice. I made the mistake of paying too much attention to concept rather than calculation.

The Canadian DAT has soap carving...as you know. BUT, it does NOT have quantitative reasoning, physics, or OChem.

You have Carving, bio, inorganic chem, reading, and PAT.

The Kaplan red book is made for the American DAT (I think), So parts of the book won't be used.

Good Luck 🙂

I don't think that Kaplan invests quite as much effort in developing their DAT materials as they do for other classes, but I agree with other posters that it's probably the best that's out there. Actually doing practice problems is essential; you want to get some of the more calculation heavy problems to be second nature to you so that you don't waste time or energy on the test. You should also look into finding others to study with. The DAT is very memorization-heavy, and you'll find that going over things with someone else really helps things sink in. More fun too... and if your study parter just happens to be hot and has taught Kaplan's DAT class before, well, so much the better
Good luck and have fun! 😍

Tee hee, my girlfriend is hot and teaches MCAT/DAT/GRE/GMAT for Kaplan :-D we'll see if there is some kind of correlation 🙂

Marshal,

does your gf have a sister who would be interested in dating another DAT crammer??
😀

Good luck tomorrow, Marshall!!!!!!!!!
I know your studying and hard work will pay off.
