Long story short, I am a non trad pre-dental hopeful. Currently 24, been working in accounting (my degree) for past year, and I have decided to (attempt) to attend dental school (I was pre dental in undergrad before switching).

Anyway, I will be returning to Georgia State University for post-bacc course work in the fall. I will be taking one semester of physics, two semesters of "advanced" chem w/a lab (orgo) and two semesters of a bio with a lab. (These are the courses that GHSU, formerly MCG requires). I have already satisfied the English and low level chem requirements.

I am shooting for the 2014-2015 application cycle, as I will only need one full academic year to take my post-bacc classes.

My question: Do you think I will be adequately prepared for the DAT by only taking general chem, two semesters of orgo, and an intermediate bio?

I have looked at practice DAT questions and performed a bit of research, and I just wanted to get the feedback of students more experienced than myself.

Thanks!

Those classes will give you a good foundation for the things you need to know but you will still need to get the DAT study materials recommended in the high score breakdowns if you hope to do very well on it.

You will get a good foundation from those classes. You DAT scorr will highly depend you what prep materials you use and your study habits.

I am in a similar situation as you. Was an Econ major undergrad and just completed all my predental courses in a post bacc program. Took the dat on may 1 and felt that the program set me up nicely for the dat since everything was fresh. However, since you already took care of some of the prereqs a while back, it is important that you thoroughly study the popular material out there (as Ryan said), especially in the subjects you took a while ago. If you can, I would suggest postponing physics and take physio instead. Physio pulls from many different disciplines and is a great course to take right before your dat. If that is not an option, shouldn't be a problem as there are many who have performed well without physio or other upper div bio courses, Regardless, you can get a great score if you study the proven materials effectively and completely. Best of luck!
