Whew. I am very pleased with my score!
I used Destroyer(Must have), Blue Kaplan Book, Topscore, Achiever, Crack Dat PAT. I bought Shwaum's Bio about 2 weeks before the test but only read about 3-4 sections. Also used Campbell's Biology 6th Edition (Great help).
Natural Science: My tip in this section would be to go through bio as quickly as you can, while marking the one's you're not sure about. But don't stop to think too much about the quetion. Just choose an answer then keep moving along. Then spend you time on gchem and orgo so you don't make any stupid mistakes. I had about 10 mins left and used that time to check all my bio questions.
Biology: Although it was straight forward, I thought it was pretty tough. Some questions were unexpected, but somehow I manage it. Just memorize, memorize, and memorize all topics you can get your hands on, since you will never know which 40 quetions you'll get. very random. (Oh and yes.. I did get the FRAPs question)
GC: I was scared to death about GC before the exam because I bombed all my practice tests. I was mostly scared of calculations questions but this section was mostly conceptual. Study Blue book and destroyer and you'll be fine. It'll be easier than you expect, hopefully.
Orgo: Pretty easy once you go through Destroyer.
RC: Yes... I got the ethics passage. It was tough. I usually read the whole thing without any notes before I start the questions. Then just go back and look for the answer in the passage since I'll know around where the answer would be. I think it's a huge waste of time to take down notes in this section.
PAT: Crack Dat PAT. Make sure you take at least 5 sample tests to control your timing. I usually finish the whole thing with 5 mins left. Then go back to angle ranking to perfect my answers.
QR: Oh boy... I did not expect this.. I hate math and did all the questions in practice exams, but you need to practice alot for this section due to the time issues.. I suggest you get SAT and SAT II books for this cause the practice test questions don't have enough word problems.
My scores from practice tests: let's not talk about it. I started doing achiever and topscore about 2 weeks before the exam and got like 15-18 for all sections. I'm very serious.
Study Habits: I started studying about 2-3 hours a day since 2 months ago. I went into serious study mode about 3 weeks ago. I rescheduled my test 3 times because I was scared.
Night before the exam: I crammed like crazy. haha.. I always did this for all my tests throughout college and somehow I manage to do fine.
My final thoughts: You'll be nervous as hell if this is the first time you're taking the exam. I tried to listen to music and relax (MUSE!!!). Focus on TIMING!! Study for QR section!! Get a notebook and write down every word and reaction that you don't know and memorize them. and lastly GOOD LUCK to everyone. I know you guys can do well with all the supporting members of this forum!!
Oh yea... Although my DAT grades are great... my gpa is horrible due to the fact that I destroyed my freshmen and soph year. I transferred and managed to get 3.6 gpa, but if i add all my grades it comes out to about 3.0... I really want to go to NYU. What do you all think my chances are? I work for NYU part time clinical professor at his office and will be getting a letter from him.
I'll be happy to answer any questions.
