so the DAT is done. I ended up with okay scores, but not the best.

Math- 17
RC - 19
PAT - 19
Bio - 21
Chem - 16 😡
Ochem - 17

TS- 18
AA- 18

i'm going to retake it in September probably. I know the admissions director at MCG said that if I retook it and did worse in a section than I did the first time around, they would consider the higher of my scores for admission. who knows. the angles really were hella difficult. also, i had that stupid sea urchin question. but we did a lab where we mated sea urchins, so i hope i got it right. the top, front, end and keyholes seemed really easy. so did the chem, i don't know what went wrong there.

Any advice/comments?

I think you will do fine in September. I am also applying to MCG, but I haven't taken my DAT yet. I think even with these scores, you should have a good shot at MCG as your GPA is competitive. What did the admission coordinator tell you about our chances with these scores and your GPA ?
BTW, how were you doing on your Kaplan and Topscore test before your DAT. I would be very interested to find out the trend.

Good Luck 🙂

hey man, good job on some sections.

i'm taking it on TUESDAY :scared: . i've heard quite some people say they were surprised at their chem scores... I actually think I see myself retaking it in september.

But, congrats, and good luck next time around.

p.s. check your private message, if you could ship it out asap using fastest sihpping method.

Um, I was doing extremely crappy on TopScore. And I had a big lack of confidence for a while. I was doing closer to those scores on Kaplan. I would say TopScore IS harder like everyone says.

Like I said, the angles were almost impossible. And I tried the method everyone was talking about with the pixels, but it always seemed that one of the angles was blurred slightly so that didn't work. The chemistry really wasn't bad. I suck at chemistry, so there's no surprise I did poorly. I even left the section feeling pretty good though. There were very few questions that involved actual calculations, and I didn't have any questions regarding periodic trends. My reading passages sucked (blood calcium, aging, bacterial resistance to antibiotics), and unlike all the practice ones, they are a good 3-4 paragraphs longer and many questions ask you to infer meaning rather than just hunt through the passage for a well defined answer.

the admissions coordinator at MCG said that those scores were at least a point or two above their average for the last two years, and she told me to weigh the pros and cons of retaking it. When I actually went and visited her two weeks ago she told me that if I did poorly I should just hold on to my application and wait to apply until I retook it. Now, she said I should go ahead and apply, but still check the box indicating I was planning on retaking it. I reminded her that I was taking Histology and I had a Dental Internship lined up this summer and so she again, suggested I wait on the application until those were done.

I took it at the Prometric Center at Parklake Drive in Atlanta. It was burning up there, but I would definitely bring a jacket just in case. They have ear phones/plugs, but they are big and bulky and you can bring your own, you just have to show them to the proctor before hand. I'm glad i did because there was this man who grunted throughout my entire test.

Well, I'm glad to hear the gen chem section didn't involve too many calculations...I haven't done math without a calculator since 1987. Man, I'm old. 😳

That's a great bio score, btw...was the ochem section like what you expected?

yeah, the OChem was pretty much like I expected. I tried memorizing a bunch of reactions but I'm not sure that really helped. I think the only thing that saved me in that section though is that there were a good many questions dealing with Ortho, Meta and Para directing things.

Dont sweat it.....that score is fine! Get good letters or rec and the internship will help you alot they like that type of stuff you dont have to get a 20 to get in dental school.

What did you use as your prep materials overall and Math?

What was the Sea Urchin Question?

Sea Urchin question, I think is about the layer of tissue around the gamete (eggs) that stops polyspermy.

I used Barrons (only a little bit once I found it was full of mistakes), Kaplan Blue Book, Topscore, GRE practice tests for Chemistry and Biology.

For math I just used practice tests and tried to make sure I could do the problems.

Did you use Barrons for the PAT? How close are the other sections of the PAT other than the angles in comparison to the real PAT? Thanks, I am really sweating this part. Ace the DAT has made me very nervous.

Yeah, I did use Barron's for the PAT. I used Kaplan and TopScore as well. From doing all that, I thought I recognized a few of the shapes. I'm not sure if they were close to the real thing, but doing all that definitely prepared me for it.
