DAT grading question.

Hello,

I was skimming through some of the DAT guidelines and had a quick question regarding grading of the exam. Lets say you get a 17 on the test (considered average by DAT) would this be equivalent to a receiving a 57% or answering approximately 160 of the total 280 questions correctly?

Not necessarily. Each test is scaled differently. If a test is easier maybe a 17 is like 60-65% and if it's harder it can even be as low as 45%. These are just guesses. I think in general though, 27-29 is one wrong, 24-26 is two wrong, 22/23 is 3 wrong in a section (for the chems at least. bio should be a bit more). I feel like in math a 22 is 35-36/40 so it's not scaled exactly. Each test will have a different scale and we will never know exactly but we can always guess and have some general idea. Also, PAT is calculated separately (if it weren't my AA would be awful 😛)

No, it does not work exactly like that. I don't have the data for the AA but this is the breakdown for each subject in regards to scoring a 17 in said subject

QR: 22.5/40
Bio: 28/40
Gen Chem: 20.5/30
OChem: 19.5/30
PAT: 55/90


A 20, which basically means you are somewhat in the clear

QR: 29.5/40
Bio: 34/40
Gen Chem: 26/30
OChem: 25/30
PAT: 71.5/90

Nice job you've done your research ^_^. Can you post a link : o? That being said; those numbers won't be exact for every test but it definitely gives a good idea!

Correct, each test changes a little but it's pretty much the breakdown. Each test day is a bit different but the numbers are always around those numbers. You might be able to miss one more or have to get one more correct

Each individual test. So the DAT is one huge ass test bank (thousands of questions) and it spits out questions for you calibrated based on difficulty in all likelihood. Depending on how many ppl got it right/wrong in the past it will probably be a difficulty from easy, medium to hard. So if one test has way more hard questions than another you'll need less questions right to get a 20 and if it's easier you'll need more right to get a 20, etc.

Lol yeah you never know! I thought my tests were both pretty fair. Good mix of difficulty for the Qs.
